So as I understand it:

- James Gunn and some other guy are in charge with the aim of overhauling it all, making it coherent and joined up across TV, film and gaming.

- Wonder Woman 3 probably not happening

- Henry Cavill out as Superman as they want to follow the character as a younger man

- Dwayne Johnson is pretending Black Adam has done well but it hasn't really and he's unfollowed some DC/Warner accounts on Twitter so probably isn't coming back (?)

- Aquaman 2, The Flash (sans Superman and Wonder Woman cameos that had been filmed) and Shazam 2 are still to be released but nobody knows if it'll be the last OUTING for these versions of the characters

anything else?
 
I feel like they should stop trying to make everything coherent and joined up and just make some good standalone movies (surely Joker is one of their few projects to exceed expectations). I understand the desire for their own Avengers sized success, but it doesn't feel like the world really gives a shit.

I just got the new Batman movie on Netflix but really don’t understand how that fits into anything 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ll just make sure I’ve got some trans rights needlepoint to do since it’s 3 hours long 😩

It doesn't! It's completely separate :o I actually don't mind that idea, the comics have always had different versions of characters running at the same time with their own continuity.
 
I did read that apparently one of the things we've lost in this shake-up was a Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton, which would honestly have been iconic but OH WELL.

We should start a sweep for how many of the new actors turn out to be problematic and get cancelled during the next phase of movies

The rumour is that Dwayne Johnson refused to initially appear as Black Adam in a Shazam sequel (Black Adam being Shazam's nemesis in the comics) because he would only accept the character going up against Superman, hence the Henry Cavill cameo in BA to tease that in the future - and now none of it is happening anyway :D
 
Dwayne would sacrifice has children, wife and wrestling career for a shot at playing a Marvel villain, he's so transparent. :D
 
they should just make the universe completely non-connected like Joker, The Batman etc.

the MCU is fucking boring anyway. everything's just a teaser for the next one. there hasn't been a really satisfying standalone film in ages (haven't seen Wakanda Forever to comment). I just want my batshit mental ARKHAM ASYLUM movie :disco:
 
A new Batman franchise going straight to Damian feels weird, but I think Gunn knows what he's doing.
 
Love that they're keeping Viola Davis :disco: One of the best bits of casting in any comic book adaptation, surely.

That feels like PR speak to me, you don't want to look like you're kicking someone when they're supposedly in recovery. I'd expect them to just draw a veil over all that, and if they use the Flash in the future it'll be Wally West or one of the other versions of the character.
 
The Justice League/Unlimited cartoon series from years ago had a really perfect Lex Luthor/Brainiac/Darkseid plot arc with an amazing buildup and payoff, they should just adapt that!
 
We have to accept they'll keep pumping 'em out, all I can hope is that they'll at least try and do interesting things with them :D
 
Yeah but they’re going around saying it’s the best super hero movie ever. They’re not saying that about Shazam or Blue Beetle.
 
It all sounds terrible. But hopefully it gives Marvel a kick up the backside, because Phase 4 has been a forgettable bust.
 
Marvel need to chuck some serious money at their visual effects more than anything. They make enough cash, why are they skimping so awfully on this? Jimmy Cameron showed it pays to take your time with getting the CGI right.

I meant it as in it'll rectify what Phase 4 did (hopefully). re Ant-Man: oh yeah he's always been second-tier and pigeonholed as the comic relief of the MCU movies like they've ruined the Thor ones, but something tells me this third one is going to be different. Apparently, it sets up an important storyline for Phase 5 and the stakes are very high.
Anyway, we can bring this to the appropriate thread :disco:

the new plans sound great. Marvel aren't doing anything exciting, now is DC's moment to do something interesting. they seem focused. continuing with Pattinson as Batman under DC Elseworlds is a really smart move. The Batman was so promising, if not entirely a home run.
 
Although it did have limited screenings before being shelved completely, I've never read a good thing about Batgirl outside from the ones who were involved/worked in the film so, I guess we dodged a bullet there?

Also on this it just feels like phase 4 was a bunch of random new characters with no link to the wider MCU chain, and all the continuation movies/series seemed tied to phase 3 more than being the start of something new.

They need a wider Thanos/stones type storyline to bring everything together. People want it to be working towards another “End Game”
