Thrilled to see Sheryl Crow, George Michael and Missy Elliott get nominated for the first time. George and Missy will be contenders for sure, not sure about Sheryl although she is a total industry darling.

Only acts to be nominated 2 years on the trot are Kate, RATM and ATCQ, who I would love to see in it obviously, but they'll have to break the one hip-hop a year rule and I don't see them getting in over Missy Elliott.

Lovely to see Cyndi Lauper and The Spinners also although I can't see them making it in this year

At least one of Iron Maiden and RATM will get in this year.

Nice but also interesting to see Joy Division/New Order listed together, I don't think that's happened before. New Wave did well on the ballot in 2022.

I don't actually understand how the White Stripes were nominated as it's supposed to be 25 years after the first album release you are eligible but their first album was released in 1999. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation.

It’s 25 years since first release (not necessarily album), their debut single was 98

Hard to say who the locks for induction out of the group are, all the nominees are worthy. I’m genuinely surprised Willie Nelson isn’t already in, so I’d say he and Kate (if not now, when?) are the absolute most likely
 
Agree on Willie, but I think he's a result of the recent evolution of the Hall in terms of bringing in genre artists that have had huge crossover impact. Hence Dolly last year - I think before that there were only a couple of country acts including Johnny Cash. I like that they are accepting pop icons with more freedom now too. Before it was only the biggest of the biggest (Madonna and MJ) and you had to be a genre influencer as well as pop star to break in (Donna Summer/disco) but with Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston getting in recently that's changing - I fully expected to see George this year because of that.
 
They couldn't NOT put Kate in.

Missy being there makes me feel ANCIENT.
 
Will she acknowledge this at all beyond a message on her website

I’m thinking the most likely options are

- fly Bertie over to read a speech
- video message (only eyes visible)
- travel to the US on a steamship and miss the ceremony by 8 months

What a great lineup - really nice to see The Spinners and Willie Nelson too

There’s going to be a lot of backlash from the establishment because of the lack of old white rock - no Joy Division, no Soundgarden, no Iron Maiden, though I’m shocked at Iron Maiden. It’s definitely their time.

“Jann Wenner has been removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” the hall said Saturday, a day after Wenner’s comments were published in a New York Times interview.

A representative for Wenner, 77, did not immediately respond for a comment.

Asked why he didn’t interview women or Black musicians, Wenner responded: “It’s not that they’re inarticulate, although, go have a deep conversation with Grace Slick or Janis Joplin. Please, be my guest. You know, Joni (Mitchell) was not a philosopher of rock ’n’ roll. She didn’t, in my mind, meet that test,” he told the Times.

“Of Black artists — you know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right? I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level,” Wenner said.

Chaka Khan was fun, her usual craziness and too much ad libbing and doing her own thing, but she did sound good. She kept the speech short too!

Missy Elliott was the main event (I can’t believe I lasted 4 hours) and she was great, she did her usual awards medley but her speech was lovely she was very emotional.
 
Was looking forward to the George Michael tribute performance, but strangely ruined by a crap saxophone player who appears to be Clarence Clemons’ nephew :o Didn’t inherit uncle’s talent it seems.

He's been angling for a duet with her for decades. He often spreads half rumours that they have recorded together. Bless him though, he is a true mega fan.

The Sia thing was so weird and out of place. I get that she needs to hide herself to perform, so why wear such a LOOK AT ME outfit that makes it difficult to move? It’s like wearing white at a wedding when you’re a guest. It wasn’t about her it was about Chaka. That said she sounded fine vocally, but the stage assistant screwed up by running off stage before she got to her mic and it messed up the pacing.
