This was all kinds of amazing.

A film crew arrives at a secluded farmhouse in Texas to shoot a pornographic film. The leering interest of their hosts, a reclusive elderly couple, turns violent as night falls.

Lots of decent nods to classic horror film from years gone by.

The deaths were grizzly but I found the old age make up on Mia Goth to be distracting. Just cast an old lady. It reminded me of Tilda in Susperia.

Apparently they already shot a prequel.

Just caught up with this one as it's come out on Prime.

I very much enjoyed it - Ti West is trying A LOT of stuff here and not everything works, but I appreciate the vast and varied (and outrageous) attempts. The pivot half-way through that is literally spelled out in the script (get to the good stuff!) is fine filmmaking, and I can see why it appealed to A24.

My favourite bit? Chekhov's alligator!

I thought X was fab. Suitably bloody, a good old atmosphere going on and a fully game cast.
