No episodes of Love Island in the top 50 again, and I suspect looking at the ITV2 figures, not particularly close to it. Estimated average 2.170m - another new low. It looks like it held steady for a few weeks when it started, but has been dropping consistently for last few.
 
Also of note, Luther The Fallen Sun got 3.034m for Netflix, and the Mae Muller reveal got 2.950m. Presumably that's the ones who didn't go for a piss or put the kettle on between Dragons' Den and The Apprentice.
 
I binged The Bay and actually loved it! I never watched series 3, but really enjoyed this series as basic as the story was.
 
We'll get around to The Bay. I seem to remember the last series was a step down from the previous ones, but it was entertaining enough.
 
@lolly is Starstruck a flop? I have watched the last few weeks and found myself enjoying it. :goodgrief:
 
On the subject of LOVE ISLAND I think it has probably peaked. I think a few tweaks to the format would be more than welcome at this stage to continue longevity for the show as I am usually hooked but I found it more of a background thing for me during the last season like I do with the soaps these days. Is it finished?

I think it's fair to say the figures are disappointing at least - it narrowly missed the top 20 I posted with 3.205m viewers last week (#35 including multiple episodes) but wasn't in the top 50 individual shows this week, so I don't have platform data for it. However, as it's ITV I can see it had 2.727m excluding that. And you'll see from the chart I posted above that sort of show doesn't get a significant boost - it definitely ended up with less than 2.950m as that is the figure the #50 show got. I suspect it would have got a similar uplift to Ant & Dec, which would leave it comfortably under 2.8m still.

That has to be disappointing for primetime Saturday night TV. Obviously audiences are lower etc etc, but it's also only a 24% audience share which must disappoint ITV. Ant & Dec before it had a 42% share, so audiences are actively choosing to turn off or over.

Yes, I think it probably has peaked, but I still think it's far too early to write it off like some people have. I guess the question is will most of the people who fell a little out of love with it now break the habit or pick it back up.

I will definitely tune in again in the Summer and as much as it should probably be a lift in the darkest depths of Winter I just don’t think it works. When the theme tune plays I only see myself longing for Summer.

I would think it probably won’t be renewed then. I quite like it, but I can see why people would probably switch over.

As long as I get the full chart from the BARB website, it includes advance viewing now.

Obviously it's a good sign that it didn't lose viewers, but I suspect that shows a lot of people caught up with the first episode outside of the 7 day catch up window (well, it had to be, or else there are a lot of people who decided to skip episode 1 and go straight to 2 :D)

I wish the BARB website still had 28 day catch up figures, but they removed that some point last year when I wasn't paying attention. Or perhaps you only get that if you pay to join.

That must be disappointing for the final of The Apprentice, very pleasing for Race Across The World, and very disappointing for Great Expectations, which I have no intention of watching, and have only read bad reviews for.
 
Oh dear at Great Expectations. I guess the audience felt they had seen it before, Olivia or no Olivia. I have the first couple recorded and to be fair I have seen and heard some positive reviews.

I love that the mid week dramas are doing so well these days, they have really taken over from the soaps
 
I’m at a bit of a loss on what to watch at the moment. I have watched Better, The Bay and Unforgotten. I think we do usually hit a bit of a lull after Easter as we head through the warmer months.

Blue Lights seems quite promising if you like a cop drama
 
The first episode of Blue Lights was very good I thought, it felt quite different from a lot of the usual police dramas.

Redemption on ITV with Paula Malcolmson and Sister Michael from Derry Girls has also been decent.
 
For Race I remember the early evening Sunday episode always did well because of the kiddies. Will that be reflected in the week afters figures?

The viewing week runs Monday to Sunday. So it would be reflected in the same week as the Wednesday broadcast, but I believe it's not included in that figure above but counted separately.

Unfortunately, as the BBC doesn't release its info as freely as the commercial channels, I can't see the isolated figures for BBC2 to see if it is listed separately or not.

I think on the whole Eastenders ratings have stayed pretty stagnant over the past year. Corrie seems to be going down at least 500k year on year.
 
Yes, I'll do another comparison to see if it holds, but it seems to me that EastEnders has pretty much levelled out and Corrie and Emmerdale are now heading down to meet it.

Race Across The World is holding up very nicely. The Bay ticking up for the finale as well, I haven't seen that it is coming back yet but I imagine it will.

I'm only four episodes into Blue Lights but it really is excellent and already renewed.
 
@lolly how does that BGT figure hold up against previous years? I am thinking it isn’t terrible?
 
As we mentioned it last week, I thought I'd compare viewing figures for the soaps over the last few years. I've compared this week's figures with those from the same week last year and in 2019. I haven't used 2020 or 2021 because I wasn't sure how both those years were affected by covid, and if the comparison would be particularly useful.

Coronation Street

2023 4.661m
2022 5.165m
2019 6.627m

Emmerdale

2023 4.042m
2022 4.726m
2019 5.851m

EastEnders

2023 3.413m
2022 3.299m
2019 5.139m

Coronation St down very nearly 30% over the four years, Emmerdale narrowly over 30%, and EastEnders over 33%. But EastEnders lost quickly and seems to have levelled out as it is slightly up on last year, whereas Coronation Street and Emmerdale have lost viewers more slowly, but are continuing to do so over the last year, and in not insignificant amounts.

Obviously this is only a snapshot based on one week, but the figures are pretty similar over thr last few weeks - I suspect it the numbers wouldn't be massively different if I compared them last week or next week.
 
I often wonder how low ratings will have to go before the soaps get cancelled altogether? I am thinking Casualty must be on the verge of getting cancelled within the next year or so…

Looking back it seems to be standard for every series of BGT to open big, then drop quite a lot over the series - the semi finals seem to have the lowest figures, before ticking up again for the final. 2022 hit a low of 4.7m in one of the semis, but increased to 7.07m for the final.

We'll have to wait to see how it goes this year, but it already lost nearly 0.7m from the first to the second shows - the figure I've given above is the average.
 
I suppose if it is the number one show of the week it is still seen as a success since viewing figures are down on the whole.

Viewing habits have changed massively so the likes of Coronation Street consistently being top 5 must still be seen as a success as viewing figures on terrestrial television as a whole have dropped massively.
