Friday is a gold mine, and I love to go digging.

MORNING.

I put my Mum into her home today. I’m half excited about the prospect of getting a life back and half miserable about having to do it, but there you go.

At least I’ve inherited an out of date Christmas pudding yesterday :disco:

Morning. Sunny here. "Friday Feeling" oddly absent but that's probably cos I'm going to have to head officewards tomorrow.

We had the same feeling with my gran. It was for the best because she was developing dementia but it was still a sad day. All love to you x

Thank you. Mine is mentally still sharp as a tack. Just her body is failing her. Which, in a lot of ways, is worse. I just really hope this place has the mental stimulation she needs.

I'm sure she'll settle in fine, these places have so much going on it'll keep her busy and ease the stress of you. As much as you've got to look after your mum, there's no point in doing that at the cost of your own health.

Anyway in mumsnet style, we're having a soft play party for the kids on Sunday at a soft play. One of the parents, who I barely know, has messaged if she can bring her husband and younger kid along. Now I need to find a way to reply to say they can come, but I'm not including them in my numbers, when it's £20 a head I'm not adding in another kid I don't know :argh:

I feel relatively lucky with my mum. Her mobility the last few years has declined - she's waiting on a hip replacement but due to heart issues that just seems to be forever delayed, but when it happens at least there should be improvement.

But she moved with my dad when she was in her late 40s into a council warden controlled flat, where he was the warden of the scheme. When he died a few years later, she decided she didn't want to go back to our old family home, and was allowed to stay in the scheme.

So instead of an old Victorian terrace needing lots of maintenance with a vertiginous staircase, at least she's in a decent two bed flat where she lives pretty much entirely independently, but with support if she needs it, and all the alarms etc that offer her (and me) reassurance.

I hope your mum settles in well, Shee. If she is that sharp, hopefully she'll find her own stimulation and there will be others there she can turn to to provide it. The one my gran was in back in the early 00s had lots of activities and groups going on in the place, plus regular excursions.

Is the new place relatively close to her old home and you now? I seem to recall your flat wasn't that far away from her.

And on that note, it's Ma Lolly's birthday today and I've still not got her anything. Looks like it will be the usual 'oh fuck it, I'll go and see that musical with her at the Hippodrome' last minute gift.

Les Dennis in 42nd Street here we come.

Yeah, it’s a bit further but both are “hop in the car” anyway, so no big difference.

It’s quite lovely- looks like a hotel. Which is why she’s vaguely happy about going on the surface at least…

Guys I'm so rubbish with food. What can I serve with a subway platter? I was going to put out bowls of crisps. What else, potato salad?

Made the mistake of looking at flats £100 out of my budget and seeing a load of places that don't fill my heart with dread. God damn you, cozzy livs.

Absolute danger move

Did the London equivalent of that (flats £1000 out of my budget)
