Though there is an amazing services on the M5 near Gloucester that has a farm shop in it and I go every year at Christmas just to buy their pickled onions (amazing) and a few other bits. They do phenomenal runny, veggie scotch eggs.
We stoped here by chance once and its now a permanent fixture on any trip down south.

When you're up around this way again, there's an amazing farm shop at Newton St. Loe, just off the main road between Keynsham and Bath (just behind The Globe pub, if you know it). Christmas pickles from there for the cold cuts between Boxing Day and New Year have become a staple, if only because I never get around to making them myself.

Actually, NOTE TO SELF - buy a cauliflower for pickling.

Uses to hate eggs, love them in most forms now but still a little squeamish about a runny yolk.

It’s so good. Used to go every week when I worked in Wales just for something to do and possibly on the way to a lay by for salubrious FILTH. :D

Oh now I have an allotment I’m all OVER Christmas pickles! We have a glut of apples and my apple chutney was a TRIUMPH this year!

Great tip, though- I am ALWAYS on the look out for pickles and condiments, despite having more in the cupboard I could ever need. (Especially when I found another service station recently selling off its entire stock for a third of the price as they were switching to a Co Op and so I seemingly have about 10 jars of Piccallilli to get through amongst other things :disco: )

I love pickled cauliflower- never thought to do it myself.

I don’t really like the taste of egg on its own but I’ll eat them in things like quiche, rice etc. Boiled eggs might the the most horrible thing I’ve ever eaten.

Quiche is the worst format of egg, followed closely by egg and cress.

Eggs produce some of the worst farts though. Those sulphurous fumes are so noxious. Very effective if you need to cause an uproar.

It depends how they’re cooked. I live for a poached egg but an omelette makes me nauseous
