I was sat in bed last night on the laptop and I just turned to the left and there it was with its proper long legs

It didn't move but I got such a shock and fucked off into the other room like a baby

I once slept downstairs for four days because there was one in my bedroom and I lived on my own at the time. Mind you, my old housemate was also terrified of them so whenever there was one in the hours his girlfriend had to come round and get rid of it.

Hate the little buggers but I can put one under a glass and remove it from the house or wash it away down the plughole if it's in the bath.

I've also got a car-spider that lives in my driver-side wing mirror on the car, he comes out onto the web when I'm doing 50 down the dual-carriageway and I'm always scared he'll get blown away, but he must enjoy it otherwise he'd stay behind the mirror wouldn't he?

Honestly, I’d rather have something crawling on the ground where I can see it than something flying around with a huge venomous stinger. Aerial warfare is a much important element in this conflict. Wasps are the real enemy.

My old dog Bex (pre Ridley) was an excellent spider killer. I'd just point in the general direction of it and say "spider!" and he'd find it and torture it to death batting it with his paws, get it in his mouth, drop it again, bat it around some more, pick it up, drop it and then he'd just get bored and eat it. Never managed to train Ridley to do it though.

At work we sometimes get little silverfish scurrying out when we open a box of paper, they seem to love it inside them. I take them outside so they can live a new life in the grass

Thankfully I don't have to deal with them as Mr L will rescue them if he gets to them first. If the cats do (or if I'm at home alone I'll direct them to it), then it will be slowly tortured without any remorse on my part. Not very nice for the spider, but it's entertainment for them, and less psychologically cruel than one of those laser toy things.

The ones we get in the UK, no, but if I was in Australia and saw one the size of a dustbin lid I'd probably run a mile.

How can I be scared of something that has the good sense to pop a bicycle helmet on before nipping out to poison an Australian?

It was dead poor thing, the ants were trying to carry it to their home. But it's a harmless species. If its helmet had the opposite colours it would be a black widow

This is exactly why I'm not scared of spiders in the UK.
