When is the Radio 2 playlist announced? She better be straight on that A-List this week.

The song would suit Capital too I am hoping they give it a spin, I am not sure if they are as ageist as R1...?
 
I don't know who is 'expected' to have hits these days. I miss the days when you'd have Aswad, Iron Maiden and The Cure rubbing shoulders with the pop kids.

Yes. And established artists like Elton, Rod, Tina all having relevant hits 20 years into their career.

You don’t have to like everyone, it just makes for a more interesting industry.
 
I will say though the charts have turned a bit of a corner this year. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a single rap song in this weeks top 20 midweeks.

Kylie creeping into the main chart also feels indicative of that. The streaming audience feels like it has finally broadened out and more older people are accessing current music alongside their classics. Plus a lot of Spotify early adopters are in their 30s and 40s now.

I hope it continues.

And probably exactly the same thing our parents said when we were young. That and "you can't hear a word they're singing"...
 
In many ways it is yes, but when it comes to the variety of the singles chart, it’s not.
 
Pink and Beyoncé have shown if you can get onto one of the decent playlists then you can happily get some hits. Even Eurovision‘s unprecedented chart action currently shows it can happen with music that perhaps prior was shunned or suffered from ageism.

And it seems the streaming companies seem to be open to this more now and will playlist accordingly - perhaps due to the average age of a streamer possibly a bit older now as people continue to move from older tech?

Either way, it certainly opens the door more than before for the likes of Kylie, as seen by the first five days of this.
 
I've always been a bit surprised that gay people don't have more of a stranglehold over Spotify to be honest. What other demographic is more likely to have and regularly use the platform? (KILLERS SUPERFANS, evidently :zombie: )
 
Trustfall by P!nk will hit 100m streams soon. this is huge for a female popstar 40+ who's not Beyoncé. having a great song obviously helps, but it definitely feels like streaming is making room for a more diverse array of artists.

did Dancing debut at 38? I kind of remember it peaking later, after an Ant & Dec performance or something. a top 35 uk debut would be STELLAR.

Doesn't it take around 9,000 sales for a top 40 position these days? If so, then Padam Padam is comfortably on course.
 
That’s about right. If she keeps up, which given streaming she may easily do, that’ll be another 4,200 - and 10,500 should happily be early 30’s.
 
it's stabilising, well on track for a very solid 3.5m+ first week
