Tina Turner DEAD

Super sad :(

I wonder which will chart highest on iTunes (or steaming….)

Probably The Best
I very much imagine so. Slightly irked at the predictability of it, but grateful that someone as iconic at least has that song.

Personally I'll be streaming the arse out of I Don't Wanna Fight, and not even resent that I'm throwing about half a penny Lulu's way.

83 feels so young these days, doesn't it?

I feel like anyone who gave us When The Heartache Is Over should be guaranteed to reach three figures at least.
83 does not feel young. The average life expectancy in the US is 76. It’s actually gone DOWN. I’d say reaching 83 with everything she went through in her life is quite the feat.

I agree. She represented something that went beyond the music, a triumph of the human spirit, the refusal to be beaten down by the industry and by her awful fucking first husband. She somehow found the strength to keep going and, eventually, an audience came and recognised her, loved her. Oh, for an ounce of that strength, that dignity.

As someone who came from a similar toxic relationship I must say she is definitely someone I have looked up to. As everyone said she left, set the World on fire and showed that no cruel man should ever keep any good woman down. Such an inspiration.

She didn't live in the US. Actually the Swiss age expectancy is 83, so expectancies MET.

I wonder if it's somehow that she seemed indestructible because what she went through and came out of the other side of, because yes, 83 really is a good age by any measure.

It does make you think though. I’m sure some of the older crowd here have parents around Tina’s age like I do.

My mum's a few years younger, but then I already lost my Dad at a similar age to the most recent of deaths in this forum. Which are around the same age as Mr L now. To be honest it's pretty much a constant background hum I have to work hard to drown out sometimes.

I’m more annoyed she died midweek. There could have been a chart impact

I've kind of got over that. Back in the download (relatively brief, in terms of the life of the singles chart) era the midweek aspect would have bothered me when she may have had multiple huge hits, but seeing something miss out when it would probably barely register anyway doesn't massively bother me.

Tina in Mad Max Thunderdome raised questions in 13/14 year old me I really couldn't comprehend - never mind figure out the answers to.

Oh I am sad. She was an absolute titan on stage. Just a wonderful talent.

she had a lot of strength hidden under that hair. I think without Tina there wouldn't have been an opening for performers like Beyoncé much later on. absolute firecracker. :disco:

:(

Maybe I can persuade my UNCLE to REPRISE his ONE-OFF MUCH-MENTIONED DRAG TRIBUTE to TINA (also in honour of my old ma who got nowhere NEAR 83)
