Mighty Hoopla 2023

HAPPY HOOPLA DAY

Final call please!
I’ll be there both days - the prospect of Loreen phoning it in for 20 minutes tomorrow was too much to resist.

Tischuana there today but still holding out on tomorrow.

The way you guys are going to hear PADAM 38 times this weekend.

Giving it a miss this year to save a bit of money, but the FOMO is already biting.

I do wonder if they’re slightly regretting banking on Years & Years as the big Sunday headliner though? Nothing against him, but I don’t get the sense he’s that much of a 30-something gay draw compared to a reconvened Sugababes.

I actually feel like the Sunday line-up as a whole has ended up more appealing than the Saturday one thanks to the various acts they’ve added in the intervening months.

It’s over 90% sold now apparently which isn’t bad for a Sunday (Sugababes were on Saturday last year).

Actually looking at the sub-headline acts you're right. I knew they'd added Loreen, but Roisin Murphy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Vengaboys and Lisa Scott Lee is a pretty good day of acts!

I just got the sense that Sunday sales might be moving a little slowly as I got a LOT of chaser emails about tickets for it. Glad to hear it's wound up doing well though, I'll definitely go again another year.

It’s definitely been an uphill struggle to get to this point, but they’ve done it without having to discount tickets or anything so they’re laughing.

Yes that was batshit :D To be fair though, all four look utterly fabulous and went down a treat.

Star though for me was Nadine Coyle. 20 mins late to a 40 min set, I swear she was pissed and her chat was unintelligible but top notch commentary all about CRACKS. And she read the brief and did about 6/7 songs as Girls Aloud ones, including a medley that included Rolling Back The Rivers In Time and Graffiti My Soul.

Also Samantha Mumba was a revelation. She always has talk in any thread about her on how lazy she is and doesn’t really give a shit, which makes sense when you watch a video like Always Come Back To Your Love. But god she delivered. 8 dancers, all six singles played, she looked like she absolutely loved it, sounded great (however much was live), enthusiasm was high and she even got four additional dancer boys out for a random riverdance to what I assume is a new song she has. Really seemed like a fantastic popstar to the point that I was rather shocked.

The first half acts (including a girl group called Flo who are very, very good despite me not knowing who they are except some Missy Elliot feature a few months ago that troubled the charts) really were outstanding and not in a car crash way.

Is it done already? Is that not quite early for a festival?

No it’s going still, I just don’t particularly love Kelis or Kelly enough to stay around once it gets that busy :D

I don’t blame you. Getting out of these things is a nightmare. Are you back tomorrow?

Also, looking at the line up should Aqua not be headlining? They would be the biggest selling act out of that lot, no?

Agreed - Aqua really weren’t what I’d hoped for, though I was quite far back and not too invested. I buggered off early to get a good spot for Sam Mumba who wiped the floor with them to be fair.

I think I saw @Sheena as I was walking in (drinking prosecco on the walk in?!) but don’t actually know if it was him as I was on a mission to beat the 2pm cut off which wasn’t really enforced in the end anyway.

No, though now that Lisa and Loreen are on I’d probably have picked that day if they had been on the original line up. One day of that is enough unless it’s a bank holiday following.

Aqua were my absolute highlights. The crowd was eating out their hands. Best of the day!

Not me! I wasn’t drinking anything on the way in OR Prosecco at all all day.

I did meet the lovely @Mother Superior which was an absolute surprise delight but otherwise my first day was sadly MOOPFREE.
