Mighty Hoopla 2023

My sources (@Pingu ) tell me Years & Years have just turned around a lacklustre headlining set by bringing out Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh for a micro Girls Aloud reunion :disco:

I like Olly, but I am truly baffled that they were considered headline-worthy.

Beyond King and the inevitable cover of It’s a Sin, what is there that’s going to really get the crowd going? They feel much better suited to a late afternoon slot.
 
I love seeing very different takes on EVERYTHING. Was Kelly Llorenna there? Surely she should have been headlining if so? :agog:

Loreen was the absolute highlight of yesterday and possibly of the weekend. I know she was a last minute booking but she absolutely could have done more than 3 songs, she had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hands.

Other highlights were Lisa Scott-Lee and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, plus Michelle McManus doing Release Me!

Years & Years were meh, but I do get why they were headliners - we were just spoiled last year with Steps and Sugababes who have back catalogues of hits big enough to sustain an hour and a half show.

Gutted to miss Kelis and Lisa Scott Lee though

The lack of acts being in the tents was missing for me this year (partly why Diana Vickers is higher as she was not on an outdoor stage)

Two main stages close to each other caused a bit of a bottle neck to go back and forth

Still, had an absolute blast and will be there next year
 
Yes that's one thing I missed this year too. I felt like I was rooted in once place, switching between the Main and Candy Crush stages which were right next to each other anyway. The tents are often fun for some surprises (Cleopatra) or something lovingly ropey to get you warmed up (Sam Fox), but I couldn't even tell you who was in them this year.

Though I’ll be sitting next year out I think, unless they manage to book a reformed Pop!
 
I will also say, the whole day felt rather EFFORTLESS. Queues to get in, and for the drinks and loos remained at acceptable levels, there didn't seem to be lulls in the day with acts being late or having technical issues, and I thoroughly enjoyed it and stayed upbeat the whole time. Crowds were big but I didn't feel cramped or unable to see anything. Obviously lots of hard work and organisation goes into it, but you can't especially TELL and that's all the hall marks of a very well organised event.
 
I can’t even imagine Kelly Rowland being that bad considering she probably has the best voice after Beverley Knight of that whole line-up. Marcus Collins is currently in Mrs. Doubtfire the musical in case you weren’t aware. He’s quite fun in that as the husband of the make-up artist brother (they have expanded roles compared to the film).
 
I didn’t think Kelly Rowland was bad at all… she was a warm performer, in great voice, and just did the hits.
 
What did Michelle McManus sing other than Release Me? Did she not only have one hit?
 
Also JAMELIA? No one has reported on her yet. She has quite a few good songs!

I think my judgment was probably clouded by being ridiculously drunk at this point and incredibly far back to be fair but all I remember is being disappointed by it
 
I enjoyed Kelly Rowland. There's just something a bit special about the Big Reuniony type acts from the 90s you'd never thought you'd have ever heard from again up on stage in the board daylight having the time of their lives.

I read this in a hurry and the idea of ITV getting Destiny's Child back together for the Big Reunion series 3 has tickled me.

What with Destiny’s Child being black women, they would be voted out in the second week, with the public opting to save Let Loose.
