Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th) (2 Viewers)

I don't think Voices with Jake has had enough love. it's killer. her vocals! I wouldn't object at all to it making her own album. between this and Padam, I love to hear Kylie over such well produced heavy electropop. it's been a while.

Wasn't it written for Golden? I think it was called Singing In My Sleep but was a very different song then.

But seriously, I was thinking earlier how it really IS a bad look to not playlist the most important gay single in years and years during Pride month.

It was more that they responded to the criticism - fair enough, fine. But the response was ā€˜we playlist each song on a case by case basis’… well what are you doing?!

No one is asking why the fifth single from Golden isn’t playlisted; it’s literally #9 in the charts and still climbing organically. Just either don’t respond or at least be fucking honest - ā€˜she’s too oldā€˜ :eyes:

great numbers yesterday, she's heading for a million a day in a couple of weekends' time

the extended is also gaining (+55k yesterday). I love it so much

Seems official

Watch as Radio 1 now claim to have ā€œchampionedā€ it and take credit for its success.

I'd be interested to know how much a song on the C List gets played per day

Deliciously, this whole thing has given so much more publicity to the campaign than if they'd just shoved it onto the C-list 3 weeks ago.

I mean they tend to have to play it on a Friday and a Sunday due to it charting anyway, so wonā€˜t be much of a stretch for them. Still fabulous though.

Thats what I was thinking, but surely everything on the C-List gets played at least once a day?

Time will tell if this is just a reaction to the backlash they have had, or if they now genuinely see the popularity of this track and push it up to B list etc.

I'd love Kyle to be a catalyst for change, I could sense it may be coming in terms of the women over 40 thing on R1

Legit question, do they actually still play MEN OVER 40? I presume the odd one slips through, I mean the Arctic Monkeys aren't quite fresh faced youngsters anymore, but I presume the Foo Fighters don't get a look in any more?

Or am I woefully misguided and they still push the latest U2 material with GREAT RELISH?

I presumed it was all rap, mumbling, sad boys, sassy girls and silly TikTok stuff, with the odd interjection of the big pop hits. Did they playlist STREAMING HIT, No.1 single and actual favourite with the kids - Kate Bush last year?

They definitely had Thirty Seconds to Mars (Featuring Jared Leto, 51) on the playlist recently.

Not sure about the current Foo Fighters record but they definitely playlisted a song or two from their last one.

David Guetta is a bit of a different case I guess as he's EDM and not so much a performer, but he's still a constant presence at 55.

I thought the same thinking it must be all rap etc but looking at their playlists this year, they are promoting more commercial dance acts now, I think 1xtra has come into its own which has helped R1 play more a mix

The last few times I have tuned in they always seem to play SOME KIND of Pharrell Williams track, so I think if deemed 'cool' they gravitate to older males rather than females?

The heteropatriarchy in full swing.

I guess if we want Kylie, we should concede the Foo Fighters. But then she shouldn't have to fight for a big lead single, if they're getting fucking second and third singles.

Isn't he CANCELLED YET?

Yeah, most of his vocalists are much younger performers.

An article I read says it’s 5 times per week not including the chart show.

Lana Del Rey is on their B list. She’s 38, but yeah their playlist is ageist. I’m trying to remember if I was listening to any 40+ artists when I was a teen though.

From my experience there are quite a few youngsters interested in older music.

I introduced some year 11s to 90s europop and trance and they thought it was the greatest thing ever, without a hint of irony. Others collect old vinyls.

It isn't much, but if those 5 plays are in the right shows, it still exposes the song to a multimillion audience.

I'm genuinely not bothered by them not playlisting her any more. I just want them to own their misogyny more so than their ageism.

I’ve no idea what their past history is with the playlists but the current one does not call out misogyny at all to me, looks like an even split (in terms of acts I’ve heard of). Definitely younger acts though.

Yeah, I admit I wrote that completely on the basis of what I imagined from bits I've heard, rather than looking at the current playlist.

When did they last playlist Madonna as a lead artist? 4 Minutes must have gotten on, surely? Although possibly even that would have struggled without Justin Timberlake.

I don’t doubt it’s been true in the past, same with ā€œseriousā€ music mags but perhaps they’ve learnt across the years.
