Imagine equating people taking risks literally for a chance to survive with billionaires taking risks because they’re BORED.

I guess i didn't phrase what i wanted to say correctly, so here's another attempt. i really don't find any excuse for the attention and efforts given to these people instead of the refugees and i also don't agree with the suggestion that this was or should be so because the rich ones got a more tragic death.

On the contrary, I think at the time the Titanic sank, society was growing to be hostile to the ultra-wealthy and meaningful change was tantalisingly close, but now we just do our little pantomime of revolutionary anger on the internet

I hear people saying that I should have empathy and compassion for these five people but I'm afraid my empathy and compassion is reserved for the men, women and children who pay everything they've got or are willing to put themselves into slavery to get into cramped boats or put their family into cramped boats to escape whatever hell they are suffering, often without adequate food and water.

I just don't think I have a limited amount of empathy and/or sympathy to go around. I feel sorry for both groups. Empathy doesn't cost us anything so why does there need to be empathy for one group and not the other?

I'm not gonna lie, I feel worse for the migrants of course, but I also feel sorry for anyone waiting to die in an underwater Playstation game.

God what a horrible way to die: hungry, thirsty, and not even a little bit comfortable. I'd be a LOT more relaxed about suffocating to death if I could have a nice meal and a comfy chair / bed beforehand.
