They could do with turning her microphone up a bit, but yes, I do agree!

For nearly 80, her voice is perfectly fine. She doesn't embarass on the high notes and sells the shit out of it. May she perform forever.

This, really. She obviously has taken things down a key and sometimes puts on an affected voice that I don’t particularly love, but covers the cracks, but she’s still more than competent.

With only possibly Candi Staton and maybe Elton John, an impromptu rank of those I've watched over the weekend...

  1. Shy Girl
  2. Blondie
  3. Weyes Blood
  4. Charlotte Adigéry
  5. CHVRCHES
  6. Lizzo
  7. Kelis
  8. Gabriels
  9. Carly Rae Jepson

So far:

1. Blondie
2. Texas
3. Lizzo
4. Rick Astley
5. CHVRCHES

Have cherry picked those I like, though, so they were all good.

Sharleen Spiteri is a wonderful front woman- I’d almost entirely forgotten how much.

Mine were cherry picked too! I enjoyed all of those, to varying degrees.

Becky Hill is a surprisingly pleasing front woman for faceless dance music.

I switched off Texas. There's just too much of her stuff I really don't like. Although she has quite a good ENERGY.

The second half was much better than the first. Was surprised to know how much of the hits the crowd knew.

But yes to the energy- she’s an incredible live vocalist as well.

I massively love Debbie Harry, but last time I saw her performing live her voice sounded shocking.
Last time I saw her the voice was fine but there were big gaps in multiple songs where she’d forgotten the lyrics. I put it down to a bad night, obviously she’s top notch when on form.

I think she got the lyrics for Atomic slightly wrong.

But we can FORGIVE an ICON

I properly love Lil Nas X but I’m questioning how much of this is properly live. Montero basically sounded the same when he took the microphone away and just had the pre recorded backing track take over.

He may be relying HEAVILY on pre-record but the performance is EVERYTHING.

I don't think I've seen him before, but he has the songs AND the moves, so BETTER THAN SOME.

I mean Elton John's final ever UK perf (sure, Jan etc) will mumble his way through his set.

I totally forgot Fred Again... he was good

The Pretenders also. They were technically great but have made the fatal mistake of taking half your set to get to any of the hits…

I saw that Billy Nomates has requested the BBC to remove her performance and clips due to horrible trolling on their Insta BBC 6 Music page and cancelled her post summer shows. Why are people such dicks? Just watch something you do like.

Chrissie is notoriously stubborn about this but yes, it’s a festival just indulge everyone with back to back classics please.

Bit obsessed with the fact half of Candi's set is a super extended version of Young Hearts. Literally been about 15 minutes now :D

Catching up on some of the things I've missed this weekend. Starting with Rick Astley's unproblematic Smiths tribute act :disco:

I’m still unreasonably angry at Sophie’s set being snubbed. Rick Astley is (deservedly) getting a viral moment for his crowd-pleasing set on Saturday. Sophie won’t get that chance.

83 year old Candi Staton on now. She's still got the vox.

Watching a bit delayed and this hasn’t aged well, bless her! She lost it at the end…obviously an issue rather than her voice generally though.

I am too. I don’t remotely understand it. Isn’t it the only Pyramid Stage performance of the last two days to be missed?

And she’s surely a BBC favourite, given her Radio 2 stuff?

Yes she went into full croak. But I'll take it.
