The Twitter storm over it has been telling...the usual arseholes fuming "how DARE they??!!" and all the replies being the planet's hottest 4 day stretch ever and cars in Dehli trying to drive through flood waters.
 
Muting the work WhatsApp group as someone has had a baby and someone else got married. The messages are NON-STOP, it’s the weekend, you people do not exist to me right now.
 
Just met one of my musical collaborators in person for the first time, 15 years after we first worked together. Lovely.
 
I am officially too old to drink all day. Bristol Pride has broken me.

But, Nadine Coyle was far better than I ever expected her to be!

Also, there's some very unimpressive parts of Bristol we discovered today 😬

We went to find food. We stayed at the Future Inn hotel and wanted something not from a chain. And I googled and found The Craft Egg...so we walked there. I did not like the area. Plus we couldn't get in because there was a big queue.

We ended up going to Cafe Amore which was nice.

The Crafty Egg on Stokes Croft? Lovely place, but absolutely not the best area to walk through to from your hotel if you're a tourist. There are a lot of great food places around there though. It's just a bit urban and gritty. There was a bonfire on Turbo Island a week or two ago.

Cafe Amore always used to be nice. It's got (or at least had a couple of years back) a bit of a reputation for treating its staff dreadfully though, so I haven't been in for ages.

Yep that's the one. There seemed to be some really nice places but a lot were closed.

Ah the staff seemed fairly cheery at Cafe Amore. And the food was decent enough.

For some reason I was surprised at the amount of homeless people around. Probably cos I'm not used to cities. But walking through one of the tunnels there was 6 men all homeless asking everyone for money. Not somewhere I'd feel comfortable walking on my own at night I don't think.

Sounds like you were in The Bearpit. And yes, it's an absolute shithole. Has been all my life. Every so often the council will try some initiative to make it more pleasant, which have all inevitably failed, so for the last few years they have stopped trying.

I just googled and yes we were. A really unpleasant area. Mandy used to live in Bristol was well aware of where she was taking us :D

Going back about 5 years, they used to have market stalls down there at weekends, and a good few street food stalls. It was still pretty sketchy, but at least you could euphemistically say it was 'vibrant'.

A few years ago they put more pedestrian crossings on the roundabout above, so you don't have to use it to get across any more, and since then the number of people using it has dropped massively - which in turn has led to more people rough sleeping in it, or at least them becoming more obvious. In fact this week, due to the cluster of heroin deaths we've had over the last two weeks, I've purposely walked through it a few times with one hand on my naloxone.

:( That's really sad that there is so many homeless people and so much heroin use. But I guess it goes hand in hand. Not nice for locals to feel unsafe tho.

I also wondered how homeless people are coping now days as no one carries cash anymore. I used to happily get rid of my change if I saw a homeless person. But I never have cash on me now.

We did go through the nice shopping area and there was a father and son busking playing violins, they were amazing!
 
I've just googled nalaxone. So would you use it to help someone if you'd seen they had OD'd?

Yes, I have to train and supply it to clients, because obviously we just want it out in the community. But anyone can order it online or book themselves onto our training.

Maybe Bristol council or whoever should do a plee to get more people to order it and learn how to use it. Although I'm guessing it's quite an intimidating thing to do, especially for young women 🤔
 
The news articles here over the last few days have all been asking people to do exactly that.
 
There's been a big drive in Glasgow to have Naxolone available. The usual idiots have done their best to put a stop to it, saying that it will encourage drug use. The mind boggles as how some of these people think - "well, if someone can have an overdose reversed, that will just encourage them to overdose!" Clowns.
