The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

I still haven't finished it, I have the final objective open but there's just SO MUCH else to do. The world really does feel so much fuller and more alive than in the previous game, I'd say.
 
I've been playing for two months now and I've only done the Rito and Goron sage quests. I'm very deliberately savouring it. I just love wandering around and discovering new side-quests and hidden areas. :disco:

Still can't be arsed building all the massive contraptions people keep showcasing on Youtube, but I'm muddling through.

This is what I want to do this time. When I had BotW it was on the Wii U and I wanted to trade everything in for a Switch so finished it quite quickly and missed out on far too much.
 
I still haven't played it :D I will eventually of course but the Minecraft-y elements put me slightly off. Are you able to pretty much avoid completely?
 
There are puzzles that require it, but usually quite light elements of it - it basically functions like Magnesis from BOTW except you can also stick things together, so it's really easy to use. Later you can get shortcuts and stuff that make it all quite simple to make (slightly) more complex vehicles, too.
 
This game. Wow. I’ve done fuck all for 3 hours apart from fuse anything to weapons and join bits of wood to other bits of wood. Even if it goes a bit wrong it’s a joy to behold your useless contraption :D

Also I forgot how big the BotW map was and I’m just still in the sky islands but I’m not overwhelmed. Nintendo are artists.
 
I’ve been trying to get to Rito as I want to become a citizen journalist but I get distracted by so much.

Oh I can attach things to my horse now for it to tow?

*spends 3 hours making a shit wagon*
 
I started this last week, and have just got out of the first bit and into the world proper.

I'm a bit non-plussed so far. I don't like the building stuff much, and I wasn't expecting the look and feel to be identical to Breath Of The Wild.

Link's new voice threw me off at first, so I'm grateful the original wooden Zelda is back. I rather like her.
 
It's the same actor apparently, so maybe he's just taking a different approach to his grunts and groans this time.
 
Oh I’ve just gone into the depths. I don’t need that in my life yet. I’m still not a citizen journalist :(
 
The one bit I don’t actually like is having to make food and elixir’s against the elements. Don’t mind it for wee trips up mountains but the Rito village thing goes on forever and it just feels like you’re rushing by everything as constantly on the clock. Ended up blowing 500 rupees on a warm headdress just to make it less painful.
 
I found some warm trousers in a chest really early on, possibly on the first sky islands during the tutorial phase, so didn't have to use elixirs.

I'm enjoying it more now. I'm still amazed and disappointed how similar it is to Breath Of The Wild so far.
 
I found RUBBER armour. Useful for the odd thunderstorm I guess.
 
I gave some fruit to pan under a pink blossom tree and a wolf appeared and then all these beacons lit up. Are they just showing me where caves are or is it something else?

It's only temporary, but yes! I did it on my first day.

Only played about 30-40 hours of this and not for a good while - the main thing stopping me is I'll have an hour or so and just think "that's not enough time" :D

I've left it looking for a king who is probably stuck/hiding in a cave. Perhaps I'll resume later today :disco:

Although I do still have that Pikmin 4 demo to try...

I'm back into this, trying to mop up some more shrines (I've done just under a hundred) and upgrade my armour a bit more before I think about venturing into the final area. Even as I'm doing what I suppose is classed as late-game content, I still find myself amazed at how often I just stumble into some elaborate puzzle to uncover a new shrine or treasure chest.
 
Also love how
Eventide Island
was strangely familiar from BOTW while still presenting an entirely different challenge.
 
God that bloody Gerudo woman was useless AND annoying. 'Are you OK?' NO AND THAT'S THANKS TO YOU RUNNING AROUND LIKE A HEADLESS CHICKEN

Just finished the game, what a ride all the final dungeon stuff was :disco: There's still LOADS that I'll go back and do, but what a triumph it all was.

I think this is what I appreciate most about the effort Nintendo have made. I only completed BOTW a week before TOTK came out and I feared the world would be over-familiar, but there's rarely a moment where I've had reason to think: "Oh, this again". Almost everything has changed to some degree (I loved clearing Lurelin Village of pirates and helping rebuild it) to the extent that I couldn't even really say going into the game with BOTW so fresh in my mind made the map any different/less enjoyable to navigate than if I'd had the same gap most other people did.
