What everyday thing do you struggle with?

This is very me, except I'm pretty useless at a lot of things, particularly practical, and it is usually cannot rather than only a task being dull.

And the urge/anger is spot on. I will rant, throw things, storm off and generally act like a four year old, even knowing how utterly ridiculous it is.

I've also been told it's very much an ADHD indicator, and looking at others, some do apply and others don't. Still, I don't suppose you need a full house.

Primarily, task avoidance is very much a coping mechanism against anxiety and feeling overwhelmed for me.

I spoke to Mr Sheena about this this morning and his response was your last paragraph- although it is an ADHD indicator, it’s absolutely about anxiety avoidance.

See I'm quite good at cooking, and the multi tasking associated with getting things ready at specific times, so this thread has served to make me think I'm not completely useless :D

I’ve been obsessed with this thread since it started and trying to find something. There HAS to be something!

I’m a great cook, but have always told Mr Sheena he’s better so I get to drink in the lounge when people come round for dinner. He still hasn’t worked it out after 13 years, despite me often producing phenomenal dinners during the week :D

Yes, I think that's what it is for me - I don't think I have ADHD, just that some traits of it are symptomatic of the anxiety I do have.

Please Kylie I don't have BOTH

I have never learned how to tie a neck tie. It just hasn't ever been required, other than for weddings.

Every time I rely on YouTube.

We had proper ties at school so its embeded in my memory. Ron Jr has a clip on, bloody snowflake.

Same. I mostly expect to feel useless when being compared to others, so this topic is a welcome treat. I suddenly feel like a vaguely competent adult.

With meals I literally revert back to Home Ec and plan out any new meals for the first couple of goes.

I was really lazy with cooking for years, but it turns I can turn out some pretty damn excellent meals. I only really let Mr Ag cook if we're throwing in a frozen pizza or similar. Maybe my control issues have become useful and tasty :D

Same, never forgotten. I'm developing a dazzling tie collection to boot, partly out of necessity, partly out of pleasure.

For Christmas dinner I'll be more methodical and may even do a plan in terms of timings and what needs to be done when, but for a standard roast or anything else I just kind of know by now and don't need to clock watch.

My mother seems to have utterly lost the ability to do it. If ever she's doing a roast for us now, which isn't often, there will always be something not finished in time, too cold, overcooked or at the very least reheated in the microwave. And it's always served at least half an hour after whatever time she planned originally.

I suppose I should also give a shout out to being a functioning member of society. I'm quite blaze/smug about it but the reason I work for me is I am entirely unemployable. I'm absolutely useless at paying bills on time. I have no desire to be on the property ladder. My pension is meaningless. I only participate in normal life because I don't want to impose my bullshit on the people I love but I'd happily just turn this laptop off right now and go and be an offgrid hippy somewhere warm if only someone else was stupid enough to say yes and do it with me.

I guess if we're really breaking it down, I'm useless at full time working. After many years I've figured out that it's down to a combination of mental and physical health. I've found my perfect role in life with supply teaching. I'm struggling with four days a week at the moment in this mat cover. They've extended my run there, and I'm part pleased about that and part devastated.

What is it with you? Mr L is CRAP at them as well. And just watching his fingers trying to do it makes me want to KICK him
I think it's because I try to use them as keyboards and punch at them rather than touch/swipe delicately.

I'm useless at reversing in the car. I still, 20 odd years after passing my test, have to consciously think "turn the wheel the way the end of the car needs to go".

I also have a problem with certain touchscreens but it's because my fingertips are usually too cold.

I went part time initially about 6 or 7 years ago because I was aware that doing my job specifically wasn't good for my mental health at all, but I still enjoyed most of it enough to not want to do anything else, and I was fortunate enough to be in a position to make it work.

Now I think that I couldn't work full time in any job. I need a lot of time to recharge and reset to be then able to go out, do the work thing, and just generally do life.

Oh God yes. I drive @Tisch insane with this. There's always something I've forgotten, or just generally everything takes an age.
Oh I'm told off about this but it is called being prepared ! If I didn't check that doors were locked windows were closed or lights were off e.t.c it wouldn't happen !!

There's a difference between checking and faffing!
QUITE! You check and then you leave. :) Not a constant cycle of check->leave->check something else->leave->decide it might rain->leave->write an Israel-Palestine peace treaty proposition->leave->need a wee because I spent so long faffing->leave.

Just an example :)

Good luck with that now you have a child and all the related things you genuinely DO need to remember :D

I neither want nor am I able to cook food. I honestly wouldn’t even know how to make coffee.
