Bananarama - Feel The Love & Glorious: The Ultimate Collection (1 Viewer)

What boring artwork.

SURELY the laziest women in pop haven't got a new album coming out already? There was talk about whether it was (another) best of online yesterday, which would seem MORE likely! Though a remix album gathering up the recent good bits and bobs wouldn't go amiss, to be fair...
 
I don't mind the artwork. It maybe looks more like that for a dance record though.

No way they've done another album already. There are three other Ian Masterson co-writes on BMI which I believe are new, so another compilation of some sort I think.
 
I don’t really care about the artwork either for singles as they’re hardly prominent these days.

Maybe this is the other anniversary project Keren mentioned to Sara’s disdain. Would they be callous (to Siobhan) enough to do a reimagined greatest hits with a few new tracks?

They have also built up quite a nice relationship with the BBC/Radio 2 over the past few years. Pretty savvy of them as it’s been getting them some good bookings as a duo.

It would audacious to have trio vocals tracks on an album with a duo cover surely :D ?
 
It’s not their best airbrushing job to be fair.

Is this confirmed then? Where did we find it?
 
To be fair we've had plenty of standard Nana GHs. I guess it has a point of difference if nothing else.

I'm quite pleased to get Baby It's Christmas on CD for one. And at least there are plenty of new and alternate versions.

I thought they (incorrectly) HATED Lovebite...
 
An interesting tracklist to be fair.

I'm not sure I need it in the slightest, but I think I'll (love) bite...

I'm here I guess, though I don't see the point of tagging those few trio tracks on as surely this isn't going to attract many casual fans anyway?
 
Also, is that Boyz Noize Venus remix only on the 1 disc vinyl and not the 3 disc?

It does look quite pretty though. I’ll probably get the book too. From the blurb:

Sara says, “We wanted this to be a unique collection, a celebration of all the twists and turns in our career. We compiled endless lists of songs, album tracks and hit singles and whittled it down to forty: our favourite tracks from the past four decades.”

Keren adds “I feel the collection of songs we have amassed over the last four decades hopefully speak for themselves… Putting the music together for this project... made me realise how much we have achieved.”
 
I'm also kinda LOLling at the sheer level of TROLL involved of having the most songs from one album from EXOTICA :D

Considering myself a casual fan, it doesn't interest me in the slightest.

The first thing I saw was the omissions and a whole heap of tracks I either don't know/have forgotten or have no strong fondness for.
 
I feel like it would have worked better with JUST duo material rather than the usual Greatest Hits rehash, but claiming Ultimate Greatest Hits without half of them being there whilst, I repeat, FIVE songs from Exotica get a look in on the triple vinyl is perhaps a strange decision.

I will say, I think the quality of (most) of the later stuff is still great. Drama and Masquerade are right up there in terms of Bananarama albums for me.

They have so many comprehensive greatest hits already I guess they’re trying a different angle but maybe Four Decades of Bananarama or something akin to that would be a better working title or even left it at Glorious.

‘in Stereo’ has some strong, if not groundbreaking, tracks on it too.

Ultra Violet grew on me with the recent vinyl release, though.
 
Let's face it, arguably more than I Want You Back, Na Na Hey Hey and Shy Boy, but the fact they wrote neither of them and would have to shell out more royalties is DEFINITELY against them :D
 
Yes, Keren says when they do festivals and the organisers ask if anyone is willing to do one song less they always volunteer to drop ‘I Want You Back. Not surprising they’d be helpful in doing a shorter set! They claim it’s hard to sing and keep your breath.

I think Viva is probably a better set of songs but I find the vocal treatment on it a harder to listen to. I could probably switch them about on any given day.

Ultra Violet I bought on import at the time- the first time I'd heard Every Shade of Blue, but it was the only keeper for me really. Time has changed that a bit, but I rarely go back to it as a whole album.

Viva has the benefit of those two lead singles, which, for me, are right up there with their very best, but it's a little patchy towards the back end. The vocals have never bothered me- I loved them going solo on Love Comes.
 
I bought Ultra Violet from a US site in a spending FRENZY when I finally had internet and realised so many acts I thought had long expired had still been releasing stuff for years. Fun times.

That was me finding Exotica on CDWow for a tenner and teaching my Mum how to order it for me so she could wrap it up and pretend it was from my Nan for Christmas :D
 
I bought anything by anyone I had previously liked at the start. Brand new for most of my faves and then thank god for secondspin for the back catalogue of others.

Also, the scam when you bought US Now albums for a dollar each and sold them to collectors on ebay for £30 each.

This thread and the general NANA CHIT CHAT has made me get all my vinyl albums out. (Well, bar the single disc Masquerade which ruined the square). I've basically decided to do no work WHATSOVER and just listen to Bananarama all afternoon.

 
It did make me realise, though, that The Greatest Hits Collection was the last time a Nana compilation was released on vinyl. That makes this new, non-comprehensive stab seem a tiny bit of an opportunity lost...
