Where do you feel you fall?
Bristol doesn't have the big city energy as Manchester for sure (or unfortunately, the tramsI do think Manchester is amazing in that it has the big city energy but 20 minutes and I’m in rural landscapes. I could jump on my bike now and cycle to a country pub or I could jump on a tram and be gazing up at skyscrapers. London can’t offer me that shit.
) - the pace is different (for many that's the appeal), but it very much has the same country on the doorstep. You can stand in the city centre and see the Mendip hills, fields and trees in the distance. And because the topography of the city essentially makes it kind of splat shaped, you have fingers of green pretty much coming right into the heart of it.How many people live in the island?I'm not really sure what bracket the Island falls in.
I looooooved the train journey from Southampton to Bristol in evening time in the summer. That depends how you define 'live'.How many people live in the island?
Approximately 150,000.How many people live in the island?
Yes, it skirts the Cranborne Chase AONB and so is lovely for much of the journey. And Bath must look as spectacular from the train as pretty much any city.I looooooved the train journey from Southampton to Bristol in evening time in the summer. So pretty.
Approximately 150,000.
In the summer it goes up to over a million with tourists and second home owners.
Definitely not counting tourists and non permanent residents. Still 150k isn’t that rural I would say. That depends how you define 'live'.
No I don't feel it's rural. I think there's approx 25,000 in the town I'm in which I believe is the second biggest on the island.Definitely not counting tourists and non permanent residents. Still 150k isn’t that rural I would say.
I have a weird contradiction of sometimes hating it being so bloody PEOPLEY out, yet other times I like the feeling of being completely anonymous in a throng.I like a mix of both. Manchester is easily accessible but also i’ve got everything I need in walking distance, shops, bars restaurants, loads of green space. I’d find it a little suffocating living slap bang in the city and don’t think i’d like being out in the countryside having to drive everywhere
25k is rural though sozNo I don't feel it's rural. I think there's approx 25,000 in the town I'm in which I believe is the second biggest on the island.

so it is.Cranborne Chase AONB
AONBs are no more. They're now called "National Landscapes"Tell Google maps that. I had to check how to spell Cranborne.AONBs are no more. They're now called "National Landscapes"
The proximity makes it one big agglomeration so yes, I would say.so it is.
That would mean all the towns on the island are rural. But the island as a whole isn't.
A small countryside village with a town of 25k close by is just the perfect combination of civilization and wildness for meso it is.

That's intriguing trying to work out where it is. I'm guessing Malmesbury way...My home town is only 5,000 people and is on the very edge of the Cotswolds, but equally is right next to the M4 and you can be in Bath in like 30 minutes and Bristol in not much more than that. Line it up right with the train and London isn't much more than an hour away either. I feel like I get a pretty good mix of both worlds!
I can definitely see the appeal of where you live.I guess I must like rural, with beaches and countryside!
It's no secret that I adore the island, it definitely has it's downsides, like everywhere. But I couldn't really imagine living anywhere else.A small countryside village with a town of 25k close by is just the perfect combination of civilization and wildness for me
