Gregg Alexander was quite a prolific pop writer in the early noughties.

In other news, SEBS current top 5 on spotify is quite interesting. No Groovejet or Take Me Home atm

1. Murder on the Dancefloor 232m
2. Can't Fight This Feeling 12m
3. Not Giving Up on Love 23m :disco:
4. Get Over You 18m
5. Heartbreak Make Me a Dancer 8m

Groovejet won’t be credited to her, though, right?

Groovejet is split over multiple versions. It has 40m+ if you combine them.

Interesting that while it was considered a bit of a flop compared to Wanderlust, those first two Familia singles did relatively well. I suppose Spotify was leaping in popularity between those two albums though.

Bit sad to see the Hana singles propping up the bottom.

Bit odd that Me and My Imagination is ahead of Catch You given they followed each other and one was a bit of a hit whilst the other wasn’t.

Me and My Imagination is utterly ESSENTIAL! Justice for it.

Oh at Not Giving Up On Love being up there! :disco:

Is there a way of seeing artists top top ten on the mobile or do you have to log in desktop for this VERY IMPORTANT DATA.
Sorry missed this last night.

I use kworb.net rather than spotify as I can't find it on mobile there either.

If you Google 'kworb spotify' plus name of artist it brings up the list in order:

It seems to only update every few days rather than every day like Spotify, but particularly when you're looking at historical data, that doesn't bother me.

Off topic, but I’m now doing random spot checks on iTunes Charts on kworb.net

Norway is winning so far.

ABBA at number 1(Happy New Year), The Weather Girls (Well-A-Wiggy) at number 14 and best of all - five different bird calls at numbers 8 to 12 (Rosefinch, Bluethroat, Eurasian Wren, Oystercatcher and Whooper Swan)

SEB nowhere to be seen I’m afraid

I’ve no idea of whether she has a chance of a hit with this or if it’s gay internet excitement (don’t follow how the charts work these days) but fingers crossed.

She's really built a fantastic career for herself, hasn't she?

I think with the Kitchen and Christmas Discos she could continue touring those for as long as she wants, doing a mix of her own material and covers and Christmas songs. Then there's the Radio 2 gig, the podcast, never mind releasing new material in the third decade of her career which is as good as anything she ever did.

I love that she's getting this attention again now, because surely MOTD is going to chart reasonably well now. The only thing which would make it perfect would be if it helped drive demand for her own more recent and potentially new material.

I remember her discussing Murder On The Dancefloor recently on a podcast. Someone asked if she had ever got sick of performing it and she was quite scathing about artists moaning about performing their hit songs and she feels blessed to have a song like it.

956,437 streams on Friday and no sign of slowing down :disco:

The Kitchen Discos did her a LOT of good, I think. She was always a fairly reliable touring act, but the level of venue certainly leapt up after those. Plus she's leaned heavily into the festival circuit in recent years- on all levels (retro/ gay/ proper weekenders etc.) and that's helped her cause a LOT. I know a lot of people who were surprised how good she was/ how much of her stuff they knew and have gone on to see her live, at the least.

Debuts on US Spotify:

US Spotify - Saturday
181 (new) Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor (298,009 streams)

It never charted on the Hot 100 here, so here's hoping. It also was added to Spotify's NYE playlist (along with Padam Padam) so should get nice extra boost tomorrow.

I didn't expect this but how amazing. Maybe it will be the Running Up This Hill of 2024

New at #130 on Global Spotify with 1.428m

“Murder On The Dancefloor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor is the biggest gainer on Top Songs USA, up 75 spots at #106.

It's bigger on Spotify globally now than Padam ever was, isn't it?

Those stairs look rather more pub chain than stately home but I love her so much.
