The Traitors (UK) S02E05

I'm still fully Team Charlotte because
1. She looks like she will lay waste to everyone when they turn on her in the round table
2. She's one of the only women under 50 in there who have an identifiable personality beyond 'meat shield'
3. She's fit and I kind of know her
It's just a shame she's a fucking appalling judge of character

Is it time to admit that most of these are stupider than Meryl?
I mean I feel they haven't been subjected to the acid test of having a traitor tell them someone else is a traitor, but still voting for there being no traitors left, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I just don’t get it - this idea of them having friends, alliances or being ‘100% certain’ of this or that. Unless you’re Tracey and possess the power of second sight it’s simply not possible.

Charlotte has been amongst the worst. The rest are just impressionable - fail to see the point in applying for this show if you’re not even vaguely capable of playing the game.

Last year Meryl was our comedy idiot - this year they are almost all idiots.

This happens in all the different franchises and seasons I’ve seen of this show. It’s baffling (but also interesting from a psychological perspective).

Can I also just say that I LOVE that everyone is fair game on this show. They've felt no compunction about getting rid of a disabled ex-serviceman, an older lady or whatever the hell poor Brian was. I think the stall was set out with the very first elimination last year when they got rid of a one-armed woman because not having the correct number of arms made her look a bit shifty.

Also I do find it fascinating that certain people are seen as above questioning and they can't see what - to us - is blindingly obvious, but then that's because we're watching a heavily edited summary of their interactions throughout the day. If I was asked to go into my office tomorrow and identify a traitor I'd be just as blind because there are certain people in there I feel close to and would immediately count out as a culprit because of that, even though the nature of the game means they're every bit as likely to be one as the shifty guy who never speaks and just sits there sharpening a knife with his teeth.

And I bet half of us here would do the same thing if we were on the show.
I honestly don't think I would - I'd go the route of being paranoid about everything and everyone, and having a full on Brian.

I think that's the thing. There must be so much downtime, given they essentially film three things per day (breakfast, a mission, the round table and aftermath). I don't want to see the rest of the day, but much like Love Island or even the more recent series of Big Brother where there was a limited live feed, you have to accept, I guess, that some narratives are played up through the editing, while others may be skipped altogether.

Weirdly though the narrative we're seeing is how lovely Paul is - but we've not seen it ONCE in the edit. Which is so weird. He's not funny or likeable or charismatic. But they all adore him. Why aren't the producers helping us to see that narrative?

I don't think we're seeing much of that from anyone, to be fair. We only really get to see them interact about non-traitor things during the missions.

Although having said that, we did get 53 minutes today of being told what a wonderful person Jonny is because of his job.

Because Paul is the "villain", surely? If you're looking for personalities to edit in certain roles, Paul plays perfectly into the archetype of someone who is absolutely going to wind the audience up and generate social media engagement. It's easy to believe that he could turn on the charm, but I think they're being very particular in showing as many shots of him gloating and smirking as possible to really play up the panto villainy.

Maybe he’s acts as a good listener and makes everyone feels seen/heard.

I think more to the point, Paul probably IS a decent person. He's been cast in the role of a villain and he's playing it to the hilt but that doesn't mean he's actually not just a normal bloke who's easy to get on with.

Paul is a sociopath.

Miles ‘I’m oblivious’ schtick is getting old fast. I thought Harry’s torment over having to get rid of Johnny would’ve been strung out more so glad it’s over (and that there wasn’t really any torment).

Can’t see how Paul hasn’t painted himself into a corner but feel like it’s not going to be D Day for him for a while.

Tonight was the first time it felt quite scripted/produced which I didn’t enjoy

If they had anything about them, they'd see through that. If he genuinely thought Jonny was a traitor he'd have saved the waterworks until he was proved wrong. If he didn't, he wouldn't have voted for him. They should surely clock that he was only crying because he was quite brazenly throwing someone he liked under the bus.
