I prefer the original version but this remix is quite nice enough.

Time for a Sunday Shitpost.

The only thing I remember about Mary Kiani was that her name was briefly a rhyming slang for 'fanny'. This only really works in a Glasgow accent.
 
"Girl From Mars" is still a banger. Ash had a few good tunes in 'em before they decided to be all serious.
 
I can't grudge Suggs a hit. Madness were so badly ripped off in the 70s and 80s that I'll turn a blind eye to whatever pops a few quid in his pocket.

By contrast, I was thinking "who are The Original?" but as soon as it kicked in, I was like, aaahhh, yes, that! Still bangs, that one.
 
Bjork's Isobel is still wonderful and it wasn't even the best single from Post. Her imperial phase really was faultless and longer than most too.
 
Oh, no, the painfully unfunny Noel/Liam swap for Roll With It. That record is a triumph of sound over substance because it sounds amazing, especially at a bit of volume but the song is thinner than a cigarette paper with the squirts.
 
The Charlatans - I had absolutely forgotten they'd released a single this week. Which, listening to it now, seems fair. Not a good one.

Jarvis Cocker was the perfect host for this week because of the Blur/Oasis malarkey, partly because it didn't matter what side you were on because everyone loved and respected Pulp but also because he's such a sarky bastard.
 
Bjork on her ownio this time. You could have given her a binbag and a pair of deely-boppers around these time and she could have styled it out.
 
Not Diana Ross's finest moment but, let's face it, by this time it didn't matter, her status as Absolute Legend was already long nailed-on.
 
You can actually see what a mess Blur are here. Graham Coxon is obviously drunk, Damon Albarn has clearly had a sniff of something and Alex James deserves a slap for wearing an Oasis t-shirt; even if it was sincere (which he claimed), he must have known how it looked.

I maintain that Country House is a great single - the counter-melody in the second chorus is audacious and Coxon's guitar playing is absolutely delightful. Wouldn;t make my Top 30 Blur songs tho'.
 
The dollar bill slipped under the guitar strings too. Be careful what you wish for, eh?
 
Having a catch. This 3rd Nightcrawlers really was a 3rd Nightcrawlers single.

Oh God forgot Ann Lee Whigfield had a ballad.
 
I do remember this Donna Summer re-release. It was the first time I owned I Feel Love on any format. A fair to middling Faithless mix if I recall.
 
No need whatsoever for Michael Bolton.

Not a vintage pair of episodes this week, seemed heavier than usual on minor entries from borderline has-been acts (Def Leppard, Iron Maiden etc). Also OH DEAR at Simon Mayo's rhyming schtick. Was that something he was known for?

Delightful to see Garbage entering the chat though. Definitely feels like my childhood TOTP era kicking off in earnest now.
 
Was that Only Happy When It Rains? Garbage's opening run of singles was genuinely thrilling - Vow, Subhuman, Only Happy When It Rains, Stupid Girl, Milk...all ace.
