If :WhiffOfMisogyny: makes it in, I will enjoy the memes, but we must also swiftly excommunicate London from the UK and declare Swindon the nation's new capital.

We will also need to make sure the Pacific nations are forewarned, because if ULEZ results in ANOTHER Tory victory, I fully expect Rishi Rich's next manifesto to be flying over and dumping acid over the coral reefs.

As it stands, Labour haven't even gained half of what the Tories have lost. Their own vote is muted in places and they do have cause to be concerned, I think. The number of independents rising maybe signifies a way forward but local elections are such a different beast that it's hard to say.

That map is going to worry Thangam Debbonaire. I think that's every councillor in her seat now Green. And she had a majority of 37.4% in 2019, with the second largest constituency Labour Party in the country in that seat.

The success of the Greens here is very much an anti-Starmer movement.

Glad to see Reform didn't steamroll anywhere near as much as it was looking early on. Literally dreamt they took over everywhere and we turned (more) into a far right country

Surely those numbers for the 4th, 5th and (reluctantly) 6th are worth electoral reform. I wasn't able to vote for anyone but the big 3 (so didn't vote) but grrr just give us PR already

The only way we are getting PR is a lib/lab coalition and that's not happening this time round...

Oh and 6th is Residents Association not reform (still on 2 councillors!)

Local elections are a different beast indeed. There's no doubt that in polling there's a lot of people who would vote Labour in a GE despite the leadership, not because of it.

Also I think the there's a bit about the makeup of the councils being voted on. Labour have won as many seats as the Tories and Lib Dem combined, but already started from quite a high position - these are largely city & north west councils up for grabs today. Labour already held 40 of them, Conservatives 15. For locals to turn out and continue to vote for their incumbent councils (given my experience is that everyone hates their local council no matter who they are) seems like a fine result to me.
 
Slightly more detail on the York & North Yorkshire Mayoral Election Result:

York:

Labour 26k votes
Conservative 7k votes
Lib Dem 6k votes

The overall result was that Labour won by 15k votes, which means it was YORK WOT WON IT

Reform only stood in 12% of the contested seats, and mainly ones that declare early. They do not have the operation, means or candidates to stand a full local slate.

At worst Labour are stagnant in their locals performance. There are variables in certain urban places (Oldham, Bristol, West Mids etc) that have affected the vote negatively. Labour also don’t factor as a force at all in certain areas, particularly in southern, rural areas where the Lib Dems have done very well (they took Dorset direct from Tories which is HUGE).

But the swings to Labour in general have been definitive, and suggest a full realignment at a GE particularly in the north/east mids. Even with a small degree of tactical voting (eg 2-3%) it’ll be a Labour landslide. They don’t have to do much at all to guarantee a win - though I’ve no doubt they’ll find a way to make it hard for themselves.
 
Even with a swing to Lib Dem/ Green in certain areas, it will hardly damage Labour's election chances. The Tories are widely despised and Reform are taking their votes hand over fist, which will only lead to a Tory demolition derby come election day.

The schadenfreude will be delicious and I hope to get the recipe.

Hardly. They won a mayoral election with a popular local candidate, who removed any mention of his political allegiance from his material, was the incumbent candidate and with a reduced majority. Rishi is smashing it!
 
I’ve seen enough, Khan will win very comfortably, possibly better than polls suggested.

The funniest thing is there will be a swing from Con > Lib Dem in some areas. Tories forever doomed.
