I love Amy Adams too, but I do worry that sometime around 2018 she appears to have entirely forgotten how to act. Hopefully this will see her back on form.
 
I can’t think of a performance of hers I’ve enjoyed. Even in movies I’ve liked she’s the worst thing in it. It’s like she replaced Nicole Kidman as the go to for every award bait role going.
 
On the surface, the pitch is that Amy is a housewife who thinks she might be a dog. It's apparently actually about "motherhood and rage".

Directed by Marielle Henner (Can You Ever Forgive Me? and A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood).

Could this be the one that gets Amy that Oscar? I'm very excited.

Apparently the trailer is really misleading! After that reaction, I’m shocked the studio would say that :D

I liked this a lot. I think a lot of the criticism/tepid reviews are based more on people being disappointed that it isn't what they hoped it would be, rather than judging it on what it actually is, if that makes sense.

I just feel like even moreso than Glenn Close, poor Amy Adams' lack of an Oscar win has turned into this SAD SHADOW that hangs over everything she does now. :D If she'd already won one for something before now, I suspect this would be warmly received as a quirky, low-stakes cinematic tone-poem about motherhood and femininity, but instead it's doomed to be viewed by many through the lens of "IS THIS THE ONE? Oh dear, it isn't. :("

Poor cow, it must really wind her up.

Anyway, it got plenty of chuckles (and a few winces!) out of me, the kid was very sweet and non-annoying and it was a blessedly brisk 98 minutes long, so I could forgive the fact that not much really happens and it doesn't really lean into the full-on camp that the trailer suggested.

Negatives: The CGI looked quite distractingly fakey in places (those dogs!) and the relationship with the husband all felt a bit pat, particularly the way they wrapped it up.

But on the whole, very charming and the best I've seen Adams in years and years. Probably since Arrival. Nice to see she's still got it in her after some of the dodgy stuff she's been stuck in (and frequently quite bad in!) over the past few years.
 
I rather enjoyed this, particularly the first half where it made me feel very pleased about my choice to never want kids. There were times where it made me think 'now this woman has DEFINITELY misused the substance', particularly when she was sprouting extra nipples

Like Ellie, I've also docked a point from my score for THAT POOR CAT
 
I thought this was a touching letter to the absolute beauty and terror of motherhood.
 
Also howling at the point deduction for the cat from some of you.
 
I was more amused by Timothee looking completely bemused at Amy getting all the gay icon chatter while standing there like chopped liver
