Shaznay Lewis - Miracle/Kiss of Life + Pages (album 2)

This is really good. Sounds very assured throughout and really impressed with her vocally, she can do a lot of different things so well. Only on the last song does the chorus sound a tad strained.

Pick You Up is super strong and Tears to the Floor is a bit of a groove too :disco:

I'm not sure what they are expecting for an independently released Shaznay Lewis solo album in 2024, but I hope it does well enough that she is happy with the project.
 
I had another listen today and there’s a real confidence running through the album. Love all the production choices. What a bop!
 
This has the unfortunate spot of following up my first play of HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, so I came away feeling that it sounded cheap, dated and under-produced. I'll give it another go in a more favourable context because I'm inclined to want to like a Shaznay album.

under produced though? :D these songs are produced to within an inch of their lives. the sheer weight of the production is probably my only critique of the whole thing. sometimes her voice could use a bit of breathing space.
 
Awake is my early favorite.

But it's mostly very solid. It definitely has her sound, which makes it all the more replayable.

You really don't even need to WANT to like this album to hear that its good. Give it another go.

I am really hoping word of mouth and the reviews etc get this a decent solid first week opener. Her online presence is minimal in terms of following, but its a bloody good album
 
I also just want to add just how VITAL her voice is. She's got such a rich tone that has matured very nicely and I don't think it gets enough attention.

But understandable when QUEEN NAT is in the picture.

Yeah the production is huge on this album, I think what Lou might have meant is that it doesn’t sound as creative as Billie, which is fair. But I do agree with sticking with it because even though she has surprisingly stick with mainstream pop sounds, the execution is really good.
 
I can't see this mentioned in the top 40 monday update for ALBAMS :(

Had another full listen on a run this sunny evening and i am loving Got to Let Go....I can see why its the most streamed track from the album on spotify at the moment apart from the singles. Its melody is GORGEOUS, i could hear it on the Appleton album.
 
I played the album once and enjoyed it throughout. A lot of the most recent All Saints sound is there, which is more than I could hope for. It will take a few more listens for me to make out which tracks are my favourites, but it’s already a great win for Shaz!

Yes, I think I felt it was a bit old-fashioned compared to Billie, but it's probably a wildly unfair comparison. I am listening again, and it's a nice listen. The songs are good, and giving a classic All Saints sound. Which is nice.
 
I am now loving AWAKE, its epic.

Missiles, Pick You Up, Kiss of Life, Miracle, Supposed to Be and Got to Let Go are superb for me and the strongest

Peaches I think is the only one that has not registered much..
 
she did almost no major press, didn't get reviews in the usual publications... a shame but I guess expectations were low anyway

OT: I made the mistake of clicking on a BLBL social media post and the algorithm has inundated me with posts of him basically begging for sales and boasting he’s #1…on iTunes.

Shame about Shaznay’s position. The album deserves an audience.
 
I don't care about sales or charts. She's by FAR the most talented 90s/00s girl band solo artist in my opinion. Mel C stan(s) don't come for me cuz you'll never find me.

It's a very long time since All Saints' glory days, and she hasn't kept a high profile, so I don't think missing the chart is a surprise.

It's a good album. Just getting it out and booking some solo gigs is a bit of a win.

It used to always be shown as a midweek edit for 30 mins then you'd get a full hour recording on a Friday, I always used to wait for the Friday show as everyone would get 2 songs
