Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso / Please x3 / Short n Sweet (album)

I'm getting some really strong ABBA vibes from "Please Please Please", somewhere in the neighbourhood of Chiquitita and One Of Us - must be the layered vocals and the 80s arpeggio synth keyboards. :disco:

EXACTLY what I thought as well!

To me it’s still all about this bit;

If you wanna go and be stu-pid
Don't do it in front of MEEE
If you don't wanna cry to my music
Don't make me hate you, proliiificallyyyyyy
Please, please, PLEASE
a very Mariah coded lyrical moment of whatever

I hope she reminds us she's a singer in every song

I'm working late, cause I'm a singer
and now
If you don't wanna cry to my music

I didn't get Abba - but it may be because I was focused on the intro giving me 80s Giorgio Moroder.

She #1 on Spotify again, so wonder if she can keep that ahead of Eminem the next few days. Either way it looks like it may get another increase this week.

Please x3 is really growing on me as well, looks like this is playing out superbly.

Please, Please, Please went up to number 1 on US Spotify, with Espresso at number 2

Espresso is still at 1 on UK Spotify, with Please, Please, Please up to 3

I don't know what possessed me to listen to Please Please Please, but I have.

A good bridge ruined by everything else.

her midas touch ever since dropping espresso is fucking insane. I'm here for it. may she have the biggest album of the year :disco: Taylor already plotting new variants to drop in August, I'm sure

This is the type of situation where, if we were still living in the 00's, the upcoming album would feature Feather as a bonus track on the CD just like they did with Mandy Moore and Michelle Branch.
just tag their old hits at the end as tracks 15 and 16, people will love it.

I've been cherry picking through her more recent discog/top 10 on spotty and the standout for me is definitely because I liked a boy. a lovely bop.

I can't get fully on board with Please Please Please. Just find the verses a bit uninteresting and plodding.

Gave her stuff a listen this weekend. It's mostly fluff. Nothing's really sticking with me. Maybe the album in August will be a bit punchier.

There a couple of songs between 2018-2021 that might hit better :disco: I forgot about Fast Times, what a post-pandemic bop.

You can also see how her face has "evolved" too :eyes:

Music Week

Elbowed aside last week, Carpenter’s five-week chart-topper, Espresso holds at No.2 (80,537 sales), right ahead of her latest hit, Please Please Please, which debuts at No.3 (78,151 sales). Espresso’s consumption surged 18.15% week-on-week to its highest level yet, helped by new 7-inch vinyl and cassette formats, which attracted sales of 3,305 and 423, respectively. Its to-date sales stand at 618,707, making it her very first platinum single.

Carpenter’s 13th Top 75 and second Top 10 hit, Please Please Please surpasses the No.6 start made by Espresso to become her highest-debuting song to date. This all augurs well for Carpenter’s upcoming sixth album, Short N’ Sweet, which is home to both hits, and drops in August. Ahead of that, she makes her first ever appearance in the Top 75 album chart this week, with fifth album, Emails I Can’t Send, jumping 98-54 (2,652 sales), two years after peaking at No.76.
