Favourite Bond Theme?

100% YES on 'Goldeneye' which I've always maintained is BY FAR the best of the Bond themes (I think most of them are pretty rubbish). It might actually be my fave Tina song full stop... I'm not huge on her solo career, though love her + her voice + performing skills obv. 'Ridiculously overblown melodrama' is a genre she was tailor-made for, and I love the slow-build when it comes to the song's theatrics. Tina sells the shit out of it. IIRC it was written by U2, or at least some of them, and 90s U2 = peak U2 imo so that makes perfect sense. Deserves to be much more acclaimed!

Duran Duran a distant but decent second for me. Louis Armstrong for bronze. Also like: Shirley Bassey ('Diamonds' the best of them), Madonna (didn't deserve to be lambasted for trying sth different), Billie Eilish. Hard pass on the rest.

ETA: Just listened to 'A View to a Kill' again and it's much more of a banger than I remember, so make that 'very solid second' rather than distant!

GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough are leagues ahead. The 90s were so hot for Bond themes (that Sheryl Crow one was a bore though).

also LOVE

Live and Let Die
Nobody Does it Better
We Have All the Time in the World*
Diamonds are Forever
License to Kill
Die Another Day
Skyfall
A View to a Kill

*end credits song and not technically a Bond theme but oh my god a classic

Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever - quintessential
Goldeneye
The World is Not Enough
For Your Eyes Only
Die Another Day
Another Way to Die
And sorry not sorry but I'm partial to a bit of The Writing On the Wall

Not a huge fan of:
Tomorrow Never Dies
Skyfall
No Time to Die
Nobody Does it Better

can't believe I forgot GOOOOOLD FINGERRRR!!!

BOOOOO that they didn't try to write a song called Octopussy!!!

Anyway, my top five in no particular order:

A-Ha - The Living Daylights
Tina Turner - GoldenEye
Chris Cornell - You Know My Name
Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better
Shirley Bassey - The Diamonds They Are Forever Sir

I think You Know My Name is a great song but not necessarily a great Bond theme

'You Only Live Twice' is a SULTRY GEM. 'A View to a Kill' is an absolute banger. 'Goldeneye' is fantastic, especially because Tina sells it, although the production feels cheap. 'Die Another Day' is unfairly maligned, and 'No Time To Die' is my favourite of the modern Bond themes which have mostly felt a bit too safe...

'The World Is Not Enough' is the GOAT though.

I saw Gladys in concert a few months ago and was hopefully anticipating Licence To Kill all night, and she introduced a song as being about god and love or something and I was like “okay well this probably isn’t it” and then IT WAS

Very exciting

Can we all agree that the Lulu one is the worst?

Golden Gun is my favourite Bond film so I’ve been Stockholm Syndromed and I quite enjoy it :shy:

The worst for me has to be For Your Eyes Only or that tuneless Jack White dirge.

Golden Gun is quite a fun bop!

he CHARGES a MILLION a SHOT :disco: (he doesn't)

Oh I have a soft spot for For Your Eyes Only, and let's face it, this performance is CAMP

They blatantly turned down Blondie for that borefest because they wanted to replicate the ballad success of Nobody Does It Better. See also: Sam Smith

Oh its superb. I caught it from the closing credits of the Bond Film it accompanies when it was on in the background one afternoon, and I've never looked back :disco: I love it.
