Can we talk about PHONE SIGNAL?

What is going on here may I ask, why has this gotten SO BAD over the last two years? I was in Margate yesterday and barely had signal the whole time I was there, there is absolutely NONE in my office and large parts of my flat are DEAD also. This feels like one of those areas where technology is taking huge steps BACKWARDS. Mt phone is often just unusable without wi-fi now.
 
It’s often a POT LUCK how good mine is if I’m in the city centre and the last time I was in London it was SHOCKING. Compare that to being back home in a semi-rural village where it’s often quicker than WiFi!
 
Mine is alright in my house, better than the Wi-Fi sometimes. But once I'm travelling it's very inconsistent. There are weirdly ROAD JUNCTIONS that have no signal.

And God forbid I have to work anywhere more than 5 metres beyond the city limits, it's all over.
 
I worked out a few weeks ago that power saving mode decreases your signal strength. Switched it off and was amazed.

Everyone wants more masts, no-one wants them anywhere near their house. Then they complain that the signal is bad in their house.
 
Why is it always so much better on the continent?

Middle of a field in Croatia? NO PROBLEM!
Half a mile out at sea off the coast of Italy? GET GRINDR ON!!
Paris Metro? LITERALLY STREAMING HARDCORE PORN!!!
 
And don’t get me started on the fact we still can’t seem to manage to get a signal to work if there’s more than forty people together in a group.
 
Yeah mine is shite - have to go on the balcony to attempt to take any call. Good luck listening to Spotify at the local Sainsbury’s or trying to bring up your Tesco card on your app if instore.

For 2024 it’s really rather appalling.
 
Parts of the City are blackspots (might be something to do with the towers) - but not great for the economic heart of the country.
 
I've never had a problem in Leeds central but it can be very spotty once you get out into the countryside.

Ringing my parents who live in rural Cumbria is often like trying to call up Bosnia for the Eurovision points circa 1993-95.
 
I’m presume it make a difference what network you’re on. I stupidly renew my cheapy contract with Three, but it’s going to expire on Christmas Day this year. Am going to be prowling for any Black Friday deals with better networks as I’ve just about had enough.

I don’t believe it’s some sort of overload of users, as there are even major blackout spots in my local area at any time of day.
 
I mean, to be TERRIBLY LEFT WING, surely the phone network(s) should be publicly owned anyway, given how fundamentally important it is to the functioning of the state, and the need to serve even the most rural communities.

I'm EE as well, and yes - over the last 6 months or so the coverage has noticeably deteriorated.
 
Reception is regional. O2 was terrible here, but Vodafone is much better.

There’s the weirdest black spot on the bit of beach we spend most of our life on, annoyingly, for all networks. It’s literally on the main road, where reception is fine, but you can’t get anything…
 
Living next to the sea, we also lose phone and TV signal when a big boat goes between me and the Isle of Wight, weirdly.
 
How can my phone signal be so bad with THIS CUNT at the end of the road?

Do you? That's odd. We seem to have really good signal with EE on nearly all the island apart from my mum's house, Newport the capital, and ventnor. Sometimes when we're in ventnor we pick up a French network which is really annoying.

Darling, the tv transponder is on the island and loads of mobile masts.

It also explains a LOT :D
 
How the fuck do you pick up a French network? From 300 miles away? :D
