Bach is standing down. Could this be Lord Coe’s moment?

Absolutely agog Johann Sebastian Bach was still working. I thought he retired in the mid 18th century, about the time he died.

Does that mean it's more or less likely that Saudi Arabia or Qatar will be able to buy it in 2036?

Neither has confirmed they're in the running, but a Doha bid is ALLEGEDLY being encouraged by IOC members. :eyes:

It doesn't seem like a particularly strong field for 2036 so far:

Nusantara, Indonesia
Istanbul
Santiago, Chile
India, city to be confirmed

Sadiq Khan said a while ago he was aiming for London to bid for 2040 because 2032 and 2036 were already sewn up... I'm intrigued at who he's talking about as the front-runner for 2036.

How would a summer games in Qatar or Saudi Arabia even work, without moving the dates (as per WC 2022).

I feel like that’d be Istanbul’s to lose (unless Saudi/Qatar pop a bid in)

I think they'd have to move the games to later in the year. When Doha hosted the 2019 World Athletics Championships, they were moved to late September/early October due to the heat. The road events started at midnight local time, although temperatures were still over 30C.

Sydney also hosted the games in September so it wouldn't be the first time.
