September 2004 I was in school doing my GCSE's

Sometimes this feels like a lifetime ago, but in other ways I can still remember certain moments as they played out like it was yesterday

So much has changed since then in family life and friends, and a lot of shocks along the way. I don't seem to get upset the way I used to anymore in tears, but the emotion is still there

In 2044 I will be 55 and my parents will be 87 and 91 :o If life is kind

Where have the years gone?

I was right here; been in my flat for 23 years now. I had a lower-paid job and I was in 4 different bands. I was as miserable as you can imagine.

I'm not in a band any more but everything is so much better.

Starting 3rd year at uni, where I moved into a house share with 5 fucking filthy girls. As in dirty/unclean/messy, not slutty. I spent most of the summer in the house on my own working on a dissertation, cleaning and listening to JoJo.

Probably in my room playing Sonic, or Final Fantasy, or one of the endlessly regurgitated Dynasty Warriors games.

The Sims 2 came out in 2004, so I'd have been playing that. I think Christmas 2004 is when my parents bought me my first laptop.

I would've just been moving to Leeds for my first year of University. For various reasons I missed the deadline to get into halls of residence so I went to a student housing mixing day and wound up living with a collective of lesbians. Thus, my fate was sealed.

Omg. You were recruited?

We were 1 month before showing our Collection for Spring/Summer 2005. We’d just changed factories and everything was incredibly late, with some of the pieces only arriving on the day of the show… needless to say it was a disaster and destroyed most of what we’d build up during the preceding 4 years. We lost a lot of clients, almost going bust, and it took us the best part of the next 5 years to pull everything back up. Thinking about it now I have no idea how we actually managed to survive

I'd been in a bit of a decline with drink, drugs, unemployment and bad company up to the end of 2003. In 2004 I met my first long term boyfriend, was in work and was also diagnosed. As a result I was a bit more sorted 20 years ago, despite the latter. I had something to live for.

I was trying to put our life back together after Mr F was medically retired, we'd lost all of our savings and had to sell our lovely Hertfordshire house and move back up north where life was much cheaper. By the September of 2004 we had over £35k of credit card debt, spawn was being bullied mercilessly at school for having a southern accent and we were on the bones of our arses.

I've paid off the last of the credit card debt this month, incidentally.

I was frequenting online chat rooms under fake identities and fighting with people I don't know.

Glad that phase is over.

Oh and lots of video games and downloading Atomic Kitten mp3s from Limewire.

September 2004 I started my first year at sixth form college. I took English Literature, Business Studies and Sociology. On the same day I arrived home from college and found my dad hugging a woman who wasn't my mum on the doorstep, he said it was one of his work colleagues and he was thanking her for driving him home from work after his car broke down, that was true, but they were also having an affair and naturally it all came out a week before I was due to sit exams the following summer and I failed all three courses.

Good times. :)

Ugh, I'm so sorry.

I'd just started post-primary school. I think I spent that year partly-traumatised, pretending to play football and not knowing how to organise myself. Then it kind of came together for a couple of years until GCSEs hit.
