Crazy thought but if a person doesn't say something misogynistic, I'm not going to assume they're a misogynist.

I think only some women.

We actively revere evil Nicola Roberts.

There's only one EVIL woman "popstar" who goes by the name Nicki Minaj. Off-putting personality, no redeeming qualities to her as an artist or person, and shit, bland, cringe music to boot. Perhaps Starships and Super Bass are fun for a Drag Brunch at the beach but I wonder who is actively seeking out her output and claiming her to be some sort of musical genius? I'd be terrified of meeting her in person one day or at least crossing her path, she's always giving resentment. At least Lil'Kim and Missy had something going on; the former was apparently a bitch though.

Also Aguilera strikes me as having WICKEDNESS coursing through her veins.

Sorry but neither come close to JLo. She needs to be incarcerated.

While I STAN her, I do agree Aguilera is on par with La Minaj on the EVILNESS level but again, the bops, the voice, the presence, and the visuals make up for it, at least for me.
I just don't feel the same with Nicki, I probably would compare my contempt and disgust towards her with how Ag feels about Taylor Swift.

Well no, Cyndi made MTV impact first and Madonna will, God I hate this phrase, GET HER FLOWERZ wherever she green lights it.

I love it when deluded stans suddenly declare an award show "irrelevant" because their fave isn't everybody else's center of the universe.

so you'd rather they keep giving made up (and bought) awards to Katy Perry and also Talor Swift scamming herself into getting 7(!) awards for a song and a video that clearly don't deserve it? I get that she's the music industry but even my death deaf great-grandmother knew the song of the summer was ESPRESSO, and I'm not DELUDED!

I think that we collectively as a society have OUTGROWN the need for the VMAs. Just make it a two-hour concert of your faves serving.

The existence of the VMAs is a bit silly now. The channel doesn’t show music and hasn’t for quite some time, so why do they even have a music awards show?

But they suddenly become 'relevant' again once their fave wins something. OH OK. I see this year after year, with ALL artists not just Madonna. As long as pop music exists, people will continue to care who "wins" something. It's all relative. People love a competition when their fave is winning. And then they become "irrelevant" once you're old and all your faves aren't getting as much attention anymore.

@KindaCool, the hill where Katy Perry won the most iconic performance of the year award against the iconic Paparazzi performance (and other iconic performances such as Britney's snake not even being nominated) is not a hill worth dying on.

No, it's not. But the fact that we still remember that great performance 10+ years later shows that the VMAs are definitely not irrelevant.

the VMAs are not irrelevant, the show has actually survived quite well vs other shows like the EMAs and the Billboard / American Music Awards that are fully useless now.

I think probably because mainstream music is becoming more and more visual, which places the VMAs in a better spot than most other award shows which are effectively interchangeable now.

Beyoncé scuppered her chances of a win. :(

Videos have been crap overall for the last 5 or so years anyway.
That's what I was going to say. The awards aren't irrelevant - but what they were initially set up to celebrate are.
