Not sure if this is of interest, but following the recent re-smashes by Kate Bush and Sophie E-B it might be worth tracking what other "classics" are in the charts.

Not sure why Smalltown Boy has been hovering around the charts. But it keeps appearing on my Spotify. WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS?
 
If not for the "max 3 songs" rule, I wonder how close we came to Champagne Supernova finally charting

It was reissued for its 40th - there's also a 5-disc edition of The Age Of Consent coming out which seems to have all the Bronski Beat one could ever need on it and is very fairly priced too.
 
Pretty out there how Oasis have recharted on the singles and albums this week. Shows you the chokehold they have on a generation.

Doesn't explain why it's been a lingering low charting hit. Plenty of albums are reissued and don't touch the singles chart.

True but not every single is Smalltown Boy. It has proved evergreen in both the best and worst of ways. A pop masterpiece.

That said, I assume that TikTok has discovered it or something.

I’ll assume playlist central. Not to say it isn’t a great song, but I can’t imagine it’s fully from people individually seeking it out.

I know there’s some way you can see the ‘reach’ a song has (as in the total number of people signed up to a playlist it appears on) but I’m not sure how to do it.

It’s probably a chicken and egg thing for the bottom half of the list. Are they played so much because they are popular, or are they popular because they are so prominent on so many playlists. Or both?

TikTok did have a part in it but around the same time it was used in a trailer for the film Love Lies Bleeding which is when it started to gain traction
 
I know nearly all of those but not particularly fond of any 😅 *edit - Like A Prayer is okay, and I recently found out what "I just want you to know who I am" (Iris) was. :grin:
Some go crazy for Don't Stop Believing haha, and I heard Fleetwood Mac's Dreams from at least 2 guys' playlists at uni.
Lots (current older teens/early 20s people) seem to like the songs after hearing them from a show/series, not just Tik Tok, some grew up around the songs, search for them, etc.. :)🎵

It seems to have stuck around. I imagine football fans everywhere, looked up Bruce, and found the whole experience a mix of erotic and confusing.

Not really sure, what inspired that. The album has hovered consistently in the album charts.

The album charts are a WHOLE OTHER STORY.
 
I guess the album floats due to having 8(?) biggish streaming hits. But would’ve thought Firework might’ve been the more likely charting one, or Last Friday Night.

Surprised Toxic hasn’t made any recent entries - it gets ridiculous numbers these days.

The Script - That was an oversight.

I had no idea Cruel Summer was that old, as it only became a hit last year.
 
Gen Z adopting Fleetwood Mac has been one of the more peculiar musical events of my life. Maybe Gen Alpha could one-up them again but adopting Half Man Half Biscuit.
 
Fleetwood Mac were always popular to some degree, but they really have had a renaissance.

I guess they fit within the Taylor Swift model.
 
True - you can imagine Swift singing most of Tango In The Night if you squint yr brain a little.
 
I wish Tik Tok would pick up on something a bit barking, like Faust or The Residents. I feel like one memeable tune could give them a late-stage minor hit.
