The Cotswolds - are they all they're cracked up to be?

Would they be a nice place for me to rent a little cottage or similar dwelling in November for a week so I can recharge my batteries?

Any recommendations? Either cottages or areas to stay? And what is there to do there?

We did the Cotswolds a few years ago. Stayed in a lovely house right on the river Severn. Lovely area, cute villages, lots of walks, very pretty.
 
The Cotswolds are largely beautiful. But there isn't really anything to DO, except be in the Cotswolds. Just walk and see lots of beautiful villages.
 
Stayed in Cirencester for a long weekend and was very nice. Quaint, but all amenities and nice pubs and shops. Day trip to Bibury while we were there, it's worth it but only for a few hours. Bizarre place. Quintessential English countryside village with bus loads of Chinese tourists being dropped into it continuously.

This is correct.

If the reason you want to go @Nancy , is to relax, have pretty scenery and not go to big cities and shops, then it's perfect.

This was the view from our accommodation.

That does look lovely. I want to go. And I've just checked where the Cotswolds is on the map. Not quite where I imagined they would be, but still doable.

The thing with Bibury is that pretty much every image is of the the same row of houses, because that's all there is there.

Oh there's absolutely nothing else worth seeing there I agree.

We went somewhere with a lovely stream/river but I can't remember the name.

Well it was a large 4 bed property because my family paid and we all went.

Mandy and I have since looked for just us to go but we like a hot tub and couldn't find much.

But we always use Sykes, hoseasons and cottages.com for our UK breaks.

Wales isn't all like that. It's absolutely stunning, but with more to do than the Cotswolds.

That very much depends on where in Wales, or where in the Cotswolds you are.
 
If you want a quiet getaway for a "recharge", the Cotswolds totally work. But aside from quaint cottages and country walks, you won't find much. There aren't really any major tourist "hotspots" or activities, it's really just about taking in the aesthetic.

Burford or Cirencester probably make the best "base camps" if you'll want access to supplies and pubs.

Also second Rachey on Sykes; I've only had good experiences with them.

From our experience, try and book somewhere without carpet. Sounds like an odd thing to even think about, but we've done a lot of UK holidays and won't ever choose somewhere with carpet now after staying in a place in Cornwall with the worst smelling carpets ever.

Vinyl or laminate feels much cleaner.

Actually @Nancy have you considered the Isle of Wight 🤔 depending on when you want to go away, the island is beautiful. We have beaches, walks, scenery, good food, friendly people. And you get to go on a boat 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love a beach in winter. You need towering cliffs and rocks though - not sand.
