What Are You Watching? 2024

I've got Ben Zand's documentary about Looksmaxxing on Untold on Channel 4 and it really is horrific.

Ben is fab though.
 
As for Alma, liking rather than loving still, as with the first series, as it’s more “warm smile” than “LOL” for me, but the episode with the funeral was top notch and even Charity Shop Sue couldn’t spoil it, essentially playing the same character.

Four episodes in, though, and not enough Leanne and too much Mad Mum. But overall, minor gripes.
 
Watching Penguin and Colin Farrell really has an innate sexiness that goes way beyond his looks, because why am I still attracted to him in this?
 
Binged the last six episodes of Mr Loverman this afternoon. Excellent, and it really built through the series.

I did think they aged up Lennie James more than everyone else.
 
Did anyone watch the new Showtrial? I didn't like the first one back in covid times, but this was a brand new story so I gave it a bash and really liked it. Michael Socha and Adeel Akhtar are so fucking good in it, and for the WOKE LEFTY BBC it straddles the culture war stuff well.

I'm also slowly making my way through Only Murders in the Building (i.e. I started in June and am still finishing s2), a show which I go from loving to thinking is very meh, often in the same episode. It's mainly the fact it's 30 minute episodes and it's a nice light watch that means I stick with it.
 
I watched Only Murders over the summer as well, but it had become background TV towards the end and I feel no desire at all to start S4.
 
I quite liked the first Showtrial series. I have the new series to watch but I am far behind with everything. I still haven't started the third season of Industry yet.

Has anyone watched The Diplomat on Netflix? I do like Keri Russell and this new run seems to have been really well received.

I have to start my Apple+ trial this week so will have Slow Horses to watch then, and I see Bad Sisters is back in a couple of weeks... who has time to have a life?
 
Burned through S4 of Slow Horses. Just the most entertaining television and an amazing cast, even though it didn't feel like Joanna Scanlan's character added that much. Obviously everyone rightly raves about Gary Oldman and Kristen Scott Thomas but Jack Lowden is great and I love Aimee-Ffion Edwards in this so much.

I'm going to try and finish off Apples Never Fall now, which has felt a little hard going, especially for a seven episode show.
 
I’m rather looking forward to this boy band documentary airing on BBC2 on Sunday.
 
Not to keep on talking to myself about Slow Horses but I heard that the BBC passed on it, which looks like absolute madness now. It would have been such a hit for them.

Anyway at least a month behind everyone else I am now watching Rivals. Oh and the finale of The Penguin was excellent.
 
God the Penguin finale was unrelentingly grim! But what incredible performances by both leads!

Cristin Milioti has been so good all season, a career making role.

You could see Vic's end coming a mile off but it was still brutal :(

Good documentary though. Some proper big names on there.

  • 911 seemed like lovely blokes. The imagery of Beyonce stealing their Bodyshakin’ dance was hilarious.
  • Simon Cowell proving himself to be a massive prick (not that we didn’t already know that)
  • Very sad about Damage still struggling to cross the “race barrier” at the time and what they had to compromise to get a Smash Hits article. They were surprisingly great when they played at The Big Reunion tour. At least they seemed like a genuine group that came together organically.
  • The suspicions about Tom Watkins orchestrating the Brian Harvey radio interview certainly gave pause for thought.

I can’t imagine they existed in the same timeline though 🤯
 
This may be interesting to those who watched the documentary last night. I'll catch up with it at some point this week.

Binged Until I Kill You this afternoon. Yet another true crime drama but Anna Maxwell Martin was absolutely incredible, playing it is fair to say not the most traditionally sympathetic victim. How it all unfolded was terrifying and infuriating in equal measure.
 
Just finished the second series of Everyone Else Burns. I liked it even more than the first run.

I think Black Doves is going to jump to the top of my viewing list this weekend. So ready for Sarah Lancashire SPYMASTER
