Though I have one on my phone and on my computer with vastly more functionality, I just can’t get used to it and still use an old style manual calculator at work for various functions, none yet all of which include writing BOOBIES in numerals.

ALL my friends with children still use the traditional wall calendars and have multiple planners around for different activities.

A really good wall calendar is about one of two things that I've suggested would be something I want for Christmas this year.

Doing shift work and having such random start and finish times (such as today my start time is 16:13), I find it so useful for writing my shifts on so that I can just glance at the calendar to double check, and the other half can also be aware. I bought a nice Moomin diary that I intended to use this year for similar purposes (work times, concerts, birthdays) but I've hardly touched it.

But surely the size of the screen and recreation of the movie experience will keep them alive…

If you look at viewing figures, the overwhelming majority of viewing for most TV shows is still on TV screens. But increasingly what people are watching isn't TV shows, and engaging with video on much smaller screens.

But I agree with Sheena that I'd hope that the desire to watch huge cinematic productions will keep the large screens alive.

Definitely watching live TV is going out of fashion. I know people 10 years older that now only watch streaming. But it also means they never watch the news.

I just find only watching streaming shows so intense. I don’t like having to concentrate on some ongoing drama series every time I switch on the TV in an evening. Sometimes I just want The Chase or House of Games on in the background, so I can chip in and out, not having to pause to go to the kitchen/bathroom.

I think watching live TV is slowly becoming obsolete, but TVs themselves are on the way back now that they have all the functionality to watch whatever you want on there.

DVD players on the other hand, definitely obsolete but I won’t get rid of mine.

I do, it rang for the first time in years the other day and we couldn't work out where the sound was coming from. I was wandering round saying "can you hear that weird music? where's it coming from?" then I remembered the landline in the dining room. They didn't leave a message (the phone has a built-in answering machine - also obselete) but I did 1471 and it was from a number that does spam calls.

We can probably get rid now, even my mum uses Whatsapp nowadays.
