I’m the same in that I haven’t asked for anything. In fact I have actively asked everyone not to get me anything. The day spent with all the family having good times with the best food and drink is more than enough. I am so fortunate in that I don’t need anything.

Same. I have got some clothes coming (by telling him what I'd like when we're out shopping), but I'm already planning what will go off to the charity shop to make space. And it's not like I wouldn't have been buying clothes anyway. I think I've only bought about 3 or 4 items of clothing all year myself.

I’m not a Scrooge but I think the idea of reciprocal gift buying beyond a certain age at Christmas is pretty stupid. You’re just cancelling each other out with stuff you would already have bought yourself if you really needed it so why not just do something like go for a meal, a drink, a movie with that person instead and do something together with the money.

I am just about DONE with my Christmas shopping this year. It is usually such a CHORE as I have stupid amounts I buy for but since I am now retired I had all the time in the world and enjoyed it. I think I may still hand it to someone else to wrap it all though. We shall see.

Ms Ron and I aren't getting each other much as we're going away, couple of token bits, thats all, and to be honest I'm not fussed. Deffos into doing things over getting things for Christmas now Ron Jr is getting older. Memories beat plastic shit.

I think this is even more marked if you're financially secure, and don't have to spend a lot on children. I buy everything I want for myself. It feels ridiculous to suddenly think around every October 'oh, I won't buy that, I'll ask for it for Christmas' instead. And then spend that money on buying something for someone else who has done the same thing, or buying them something else which will invariably be stuffed in a cupboard or a charity bag.

Together with just resenting stuff more as you age, and I think appreciating time and shared experiences more, and yes, going to the theatre or out for a meal or something is so much more appreciated.

I'm not very good at buying things for myself, so I enjoy the forced aspect of it.

That being said I've some friends that we agreed a few years ago to not do presents and go on a weekend away every January instead.
