I had LIZA TARBUCK on the other day, now that was an ECCLECTIC playlist!
 
GOOD RIDDANCE to a DREADFUL PRESENTER

(Even though she's being replaced by another dreadful presenter :evil:)
 
I prefer Mills to Ball. At least he provides some kind of innovation. She just arse licks everyone and offers virtually nothing.

I see Trevor Nelson is doing afternoons, Spoony doing Mon-Thur evenings after Whiley,

Sophie Ellis Bextor is now on Friday night after Visage, which quite gay cat nip.
 
Cox is wasted on prime slots. I don't need her doing endless time checks and shout outs, but I guess that's just Radio 2.

I was a little concerned that they might be getting rid of the genre shows when you said that Spoony was going to be Mon-Thu after Whiley, but I see he’s not starting until 10pm.

How would @ZenGiraffe cope without the country and folk shows?
 
Edith Bowman covering the 7pm slot is fucking appalling (she always was).

I'm listening to Mark Goodier on R2 now playing non stop billion streamer songs. Quite a novel idea for a bank hol :D :disco:
 
Not particularly a fan of Bob Harris, but him standing down due to his illness (pancreatic cancer) is very sad.



Shaun Keaveny, who has been hosting Sounds Of The 70s temporarily, will be taking the show on permanently.
 
Maybe they could get Pete Murray back. My mum saw him on a plane once and said he had horrible teeth. Outlived her though so who’s laughing now? Hmm?

Really not enjoying that stand in for this show. At least its not a stand up comedian.
 
Sara Cox starts the Breakfast Show on Mon 6 July :disco: Only eight years after she should have got it

I'd been quite enjoying Gary Davies but after a few months it's become apparent why he's kept as supply teacher. Good natured and a safe pair of hands, but inane and a BIT THICK.

The exit of the dreadful Scott Mills prompted me to start listening to R2 more and I'm surprised by how much I enjoy it. Vernon Kay in particular is someone I never cared for but am surprised how much I like him in this context. I switch off the moment Jeremy Vine's show starts and I often forget to put it back on. Is there some weird BBC Charter reason that means a day of nice music and cheery chat has to be interrupted by 2 hours of rage bait phone 'debates' presented by an absolute prick?

I do think there is a requirement for them to offer a certain level of spoken word and current affairs content - I think the amount required has probably reduced over the years and having Vine for two hours every week day covers this requirement. It used to be they’d have comedy shows on Radio 2, and they also had their own Archers-style soap back in the 70s.

I used to be the same during the Ken Bruce years - what a plummet back down to earth following the thrills and spills of Popmaster. I can't imagine willingly listening to it.

Radio 2 is just majestic and I've been Radio 2 for many years before I even reached the target demographic I think!

I love it on in the background of a weekend but lately i've not really tuned into the Breakfast or Drivetime shows but I may start doing it again now.
 
Additional R2 thoughts
  • Shut the fuck up about Radio 2 In The Park in Stirling. It's not until September! It's not exciting! It's just one weekend! Why is the BBC even allowed to aggressively SELL TICKETS?
  • AXE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.
  • I enjoy the disparity of the playlist. Sombr and Olivia Rodrigo next to a decrepit-sounding Paul McCartney and the Natalie Imbruglia comeback single that nobody's listening to by choice (see her streaming numbers)
  • I think Radio 2 overestimates how much people like Michelle Visage
  • Weekend line-ups are great if you can avoid Tony Blackburn
  • But it's shit Liza left. And weird how she did it
  • Nice to have Clara Amfo making her debut later as a cover host. Depending on how she does I'd just give her the tea time show, or tempt Greg James over. Sorry OJ Borg.

So she was 25 when she started Radio 1 in 2009. I don't think she's the only one who got old guys :(
 
Love Gary Davies reading out tearful tributes for his final Breakfast Show, like he's been hosting it for years

Highlight was the very boring Game of Thrones actor saying "fucking hell" live on air and the apologies that followed.
 
If you'd have popped up behind the hedge on the school playing field on a Tuesday lunchtime 40 years ago where we were listening to the new top 40 on a TINNY OLD TRANNY and told me that GARY DAVIES would still be going in 2026 I'd have LAUGHED IN YOUR FACE

In lighter news, it's such a joy having Coxy on in the mornings. She's just brilliant. So fun and funny.

When she raised about a quarter of the entire money raised for CiN in 2025, I realised that people fucking love her.

I've always enjoyed her as a radio presence, ever since I heard her casually spending an hour chatting about jigsaws on Radio 1 back in the day.

The loss of Liza really remains a disaster though.

I heard this for the very first time last week - what the actual fuck? I did get some enjoyment out of imagining Sara Cox earnestly nodding along between parps of her clown horn.

I like Michelle but I agree - as much as she is spiritually Bri’ish there is still something about her that is very earnestly American.

But then again I was a bit taken aback by the almost FORCED POSITIVITY of Cox’s breakfast show when first tuning in but after a while even I said “yeah go on … fuck it”
 
Came into the thread to report on some major Moopy crossover - which was the seemingly random inclusion of RUSTIE LEE as a guest on Rylan’s show today.

The more I find out Rylan, the most it becomes apparent that he would 100% would have been on here during Moopy’s early days getting casually bullied by Ag if he’d been a bit more of a shut in teenager.
