I;ve just spent several minutes trying to write something about the Lighthouse Family but, nope, I give up.
 
Oh, the Top 40's back. Wonder if it was a minor error in the version of the show stored in the archive.
 
Oh, this was the Bluetones' best single by an absolute mile, "Marblehead Johnson". They'd get hammered for the video nowadays, mind you...in fact, I think they got called out for it at the time (they did it in 'fat suits' and prosthetics to make them all look very overweight. Ugh.)
 
Adore that Donna Lewis has been on about as much as Roy Chubby Brown was. Hardest working agent in the business, no doubt!

And BBE, which was such a stunning banger I was left with simply no choice but to go OHHHH!
 
I hope they ditch these annoying 'chart flashbacks' soon. I do not care for having my mid-90s nostalgia rudely interrupted by Enya. :evil:

Weren’t the extended episodes that maybe needed some filler because in the same hour period BBC showed the new Muppets show which was less than 25 mins long? (And said series wasn’t that long)
 
I'm sorry if this is Madonna sacrilege, but You Must Love Me is an absolute snore.

I had a strange obsession with Evita in my pre-teens, but I always used to fast forward it. Dull as ditchwater.
 
Speaking of boring, this Cast song sounds like they came really close to just fully ripping off Roll With It, but chickened out when they got to the chorus.

Also Geru following Bear van Beers' example in rejecting the tits or legs rule for the #1 Say You'll Be There perf did raise a smirk.
 
Now I obviously love Possibly Maybe dearly, but the faces on these poor kids being forced to stand around awkwardly through this Björk performance, having been merrily bopping to Gina G five minutes earlier. :D
 
911 were always so obviously B-tier, I barely remember any of their hits. This one feels like it's trying very very hard to be as close to Take That as possible without actively committing plagiarism.
 
I always forget how long Moby was floating around before Play happened. Did not need this shirtless screamo perf at all.
 
Stranger in Moscow. Right around the point Michael Jackson seemed to have fully devolved into an irredeemably weird walking punchline, he goes and drops this absolute masterpiece.

Oddly the first time I’ve ever watched them and thought ‘you weren’t that awful’. Still couldn’t hum it, mind.

Gina G being as ridiculous as ever is a highlight :disco:
 
I'm playing catch-up again after not bothering last weekend so it's my own fault.

Quite a moshy/bouncy audience tonight, giving it some serious welly for Skunk Anansie (fair) and The Bluetones (less so).
 
I occasionally wonder wonder how some of these mimed performances at gigs were put to the audience. "OK, we're now going to mime our new single a couple of times for a television programme. behave and all that, aye?" Metallica's audience look utterly dischuffed. Mind you, the single is crap so it could be that too...
 
The Power Station - utterly dismal and desperate. Has any artist been as commercially successful as Robert Palmer but left absolutely no trace or legacy whatsoever?
 
Sleeper in the diminishing returns stage of their career. If you'd tied me to a chair, pointed a loaded cucumber at my head and told me to sing this, I'd have been in trouble.

I guess The Longpigs role in life turned out to be allowing Richard Hawley to get his mediocre, indie stuff out of his system before becoming who he is now.
 
Manics - Kevin Carter. The following year, they admitted that taking one of Richey Edwards' lyrics into the top 10 had created a new layer of guilt that they had to work through, which I can see. I mean, the surviving members of Joy Division had a process to go through when becoming New Order but they never had a top 10 hit with a lyric written by Ian Curtis. What a strange, strange time for them. Nicky's looking a bit more like himself here but it's still very much dress-down-day for them. Brilliant record, hasn't aged a day.
 
Baby Bird. "Remember the tanktop you bought me" is quite the opening line...he's a bit Reform these days. Had a heart attack, survived, went right wing, a tale as old as time.
 
"Setting Sun" - bloody marvellous. Best thing with N**l Gallagher's voice on it anyway. There's a bit in the middle which is basically 20 seconds of beatless noise. Nice work getting that to #1.
 
"C'mon Kids" by The Boo Radleys is the most underrated album of the 90s. Unpredictable, compulsively melodic and really quite bizarre, it was possibly too much of a psychedelic experience and the poor sales compared to its predecessor pretty much finished them. They made one more album but didn't tour because they'd all fallen out. And then, it was over. Shame.
 
Love In The Key Of C is a nice enough song, but a weird way to squander the best run of hits Belinda Carlisle had had in years. A Woman & A Man was right there!
 
Another classic rooted to the spot with gentle arm choreo and not a hint of a live vocal performance from my beloved Louise :D
