this was event cinema.

such a KINKY film. I feel like it's a middle brow crowd pleaser not unlike Challengers. not quite art, not quite trash, but somewhere pleasing in the middle.

if Nic grabs herself an Oscar for this :D Harris Dickinson is so...

Antonio Banderas eats, also. I'm giving it a 9.
 
it's not really a thriller. I liked the tonal shifts a lot, the comedy was fun and sometimes subtle. the scene where her daughter finds her at the house was really well played as well. the daughter reminded me a lot of Emma Corrin. the family dynamic was really well written I thought.

there are two really standout set pieces in the middle of the film - the queer underground RAVE scene where Romy goes clubbing in her skinny office heels was many shades of :disco:

Yeah I loved this. For a while at the beginning I was worried it was just going to be the usual affair drama and I was worried, but they seemed to eschew that quite quickly. It could have been a bit wilder, a bit weirder, but I thought it was interesting and a lot of fun and Antonio Banderas was HOT! and at least showed more skin than Harris Dickinson.
 
it definitely lost a point for never even seeing Harris in his UNDERWEAR! but gained half a point back for his dance scene.
 
I liked this, just not quite as much as I hoped. I spent a lot of the final hour ready for it to end, and as much as I appreciated how it never felt generic or safe, I wished they'd have pushed it a bit further and gone even camper and filthier with it.

Nicole was terrific. She understood the assignment fully and I believed in that character throughout. Of the older actresses getting their tits and arses out this awards season Demi is still my preference for the Oscar, but there's not much in it performance wise.

My main question was HOW LONG IS THE TIME PERIOD OF THIS FILM? It felt like it was at least 3-4 months when you take into account all that happened / the montages / the dialogue, but those Christmas trees were pretty much up THROUGHOUT. And you just know CEO Nicole would have had two weeks off for Christmas and NY, in the way all rich people do.

I'm very rarely inclined to see anything that isn't a children's film at the cinema these days, but think I'll make an exception for this.
 
I was in a packed screening in Leeds earlier and I really enjoyed it. The milk drinking scene was hilarious and as someone mentioned earlier, the seizure inducing clubbing scene was fantastic.
 
Just seen it. I did laugh at the daughters making fun of her botoxed face.

Antonio Banderas was very good, but ultimately didn’t love it. It started getting more interesting when Esme (playing by the actress who made Talk To Me watchable) had a scene, but then it never really went anywhere.

The accent work wasn’t all that great here either. Even Nicole was slipping in to Aussie, which rarely happens. In fact if that’s Ewan M’s daughter, were any of the main cast even American?

The fact there was an actual real reference to the PUSS IN BOOTS MOVIES I wouldn’t put it past them.
 
I suspect your enjoyment of this film may be heavily predicated on the extent to which you find Harris Dickinson sexually appealing. I myself did not, so unfortunately I found this fairly tedious. When Nicole did her big speech to Antonio near the end, all I could think was, all that fuss over a bit of fingering and a saucer of milk? It would’ve been much more interesting if they’d been bold enough to give her a proper fetish.

I will up it a point if someone recuts the Father Figure scene and replaces it with Desire by Geri Halliwell. It was all I could think of during that scene.

Saw this at the cinema this afternoon. Nobody can do BRITTLE like Nicole :disco: but I thought Harris Dickinson was too MONOSYLLABIC in a tricky role.

From the blurb I was wondering if it might be some higher budget RED SHOE DIARIES type thing, but I actually found it oddly SEXLESS & often quite uncomfortable to watch, which may have been the point, but I didn't engage fully with any of the characters to really care what happened though, so ultimately - :meh:
 
Why has it taken the world this long to finally give is a proper mainstream S&M film that is not about whips and chains and shit like that

The dynamics of their relationship was beautifully orchestrated
Nothing to do with the actors or how attractive one finds him/her/them.
 
finally watched this tonight. I did find it quite the turn on, but something was missing to make it very good. I agree it felt not quite trash, but not quite arty.
Still an enjoyable, and different watch :D
