Eat a biscuit, eat a cake, eat the FRIDAY THREAD by mistake

In quite a severe CBA mode. Especially as the first task I've been given for the day is to clear up after a total BUFFOON who suffers from constant delusions of adequecy.
 
I usually like Fridays as it’s a WFH home day and i’m the only one who comes to the office, but one of the WICKED straight boys had taken to coming in also, despite the fact he lives IN HARROW.
 
If he’s insisting on being here then he’s listening to the cast recording of Sunset Boulevard I don’t give a fuck.

I’m currently sat in a multistorey car park waiting for an interview I feel ill-prepared for. Only found out on Monday about it and had to prepare a presentation for today in a super busy week in work.

Opened last year apparently on Castle Street. I didn't know about it but got a gift card for it at Christmas. It was meant to be a belated Valentine's meal as I was supposed to be in Germany last week until all travel got cancelled for the next 6 months :(

The Ivy is very much an expensive chain restaurant now. Even when I went about 10 years ago I thought it was nice but wildly overpriced.
 
No 4 day week for me but Ms Ron is swanning about like its a Saturday and just got the hump because I was trying to concentrate on something. Fuck off.
 
I haven’t been to The Ivy for YEARS. It used to be a regular haunt for me and my first husband back in the late 90’s long before the club was opened and I had NO IDEA that it was now a chain restaurant.
 
I went to an Ivy after my graduation. It was nice but hardly earth shatteringly good.
 
Yeah, we had a work lunch there once and it was fine. I'd definitely never pay my own money to go there though.
 
I won't go to The Ivy for fear of running into Huw Edwards in the gents.
 
Yeah it seems to have SOLD OUT now. The one in the West end in London was very good back in its heyday. I haven’t been in over 20 years though so no idea what it’s like now.
 
Anti-Ivy here. Will never forgot paying £5 for a RAMMIKIN of 4 olives. :evil:

The food is fine, but very chain-y, yet they charge prices that suggest otherwise. You're better off sticking to a nice BELLA ITALIA frankly.
 
We’ve just had an Ivy open here. It looks lovely inside and the toilets were so gorgeous I contemplated taking up cottaging but the food was a flop.

I'd like to do an Ivy Asia just for a change.

The last time I went to one of their regular ones (Exeter, I think), i spent the whole time wondering who on earth watered and dusted all their plants.

We're coming from very different positions. Not that never seen prices like that before, but any dish over £30 is definitely overpriced in any context.
 
I've done the Ivy's fixed price lunch a number of times which is similarly priced to most chains. And broadly very similar in quality, but i seem to recall it's more limited in options.

But people go 'because it's the Ivy' largely, don't they? That's why it's always full of people with their parents.

I disagree as it all depends what produce they are using. Most pub chains are cheap and cheerful as they are just stuck in to a microwave for a few minutes. If you are getting good produce made by top chefs then you are paying for both the chefs, the produce and surroundings. It’s all relative.
 
To be honest I doubt (particularly now it's a chain) that The Ivy do use top chefs or much better produce. They can charge a premium because of their name and the 'exclusivity'.

I would say so yes. When I used to go with my ex it was mainly business meals that I was dragged along to with all his cronies and their wives. It was exclusive back then and I have no doubt that is why they went there. We rarely went just the 2 of us.

I think I read things wrong as I took Ag saying “but any dish over £30 is definitely overpriced in any context” meant in any restaurant. Yes, of course you are paying for the name but going to most places now, even in most pubs a a main is usually around £20 or more so an extra 10er for going to The Ivy doesn’t seem all that pricey to me.
 
It's not that I don't appreciate FINE DINING. I've eaten at similarly priced restaurants here and the product, venue, service has all been amazing, but it's not in our normal price range, even when we're relatively well off. Very much "with the parents" kinda places.

I'd agree with you there. I don't think £30 for a plate of food is necessarily overpriced for the reasons you said. I've only very rarely paid it, though.
