Valentine's Day 2025. DANIEL is BACK, MARK is NOT, Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor are IN, Emma Thompson is BACK (but didn't co-write the script this time), and I fear this might be quite good. or I hope. I actually never watched Baby...
 
it makes my heart really happy that this franchise is keeping Renée in (sporadic) employment. she deserves so much more.
 
Oh I do hope Leo is a bit rough like he was in The White Lotus :horny:
 
I saw the third at the cinema and really liked it, but did it get slated?

I spent a good chunk hating it, but by the end I was satisfied and happy I'd seen it. I think a lot of my issue was that I don't actually like Bridget all that much, as a character or performance.

Leo Woodall's arms were terrific, and I thought some of the best writing was done re: her in relation to his character. I laughed a few times, perhaps most notably at the use of subtitles in the v fun lips sequence.

I'm pleased Bridget's ended up happy, but I am concerned that she completely failed to notice that the science teacher was grooming her children.
 
Also, if you want a good measure of how bad the UK film industry was at inclusivity for so long: this is basically the first film in the series where Bridget acknowledges people of colour. Despite them all being set in London.

almost £12m for the weekend :o

I saw this on Valentine's and I have to say I started crying when she goes through the box with the glasses and basically didn't stop after that. it's the least funny (it's only a comedy for a few sequences) but the most touching and emotional of the films and I thought it did a great job picking up on Bridget as an older middle aged woman dealing with grief.

there were funny parts though - I loved the two hosts of Better Women, the birthday party where Rox rescued the dog, the awful mother of the twins, Emma Thompson's scenes etc. but the films like Bridge herself have mellowed a lot. it's a strong 8 for me. this is definitely the last film right? it screamed final happy ending.

and honestly thank god for this franchise keeping Renee Zellweger employed. she's much too great a comedic and dramatic actor to have languished on the fringes for this long now.
 
Leila Farzad being in it and her character was a highlight too :disco:

Was this a disappointment at the box office? Just had a look and it’s made £125 million on a £50 million budget. It seems to have made around £90 million less than the last movie. People are still going to see it now as it is still in the UK Box office top 10. It can’t make money off of DVD sales etc now, so how do they make money after it leaves the cinema these days?

It didn't get a theatrical release in the US - went to Peacock - not sure if that is counted in terms of box office revenue.
 
The £125 million is only theatrical box office takings from around the world. Presumably, whichever streaming service the film is on will pay money to the studio in order to be allowed to show the film. I’ve never seen any numbers regarding how much they would pay for this.

The last one did $25m in the US. Obviously the studio didn't take into account the What/If (2019-2019) effect, which they've now missed out on.

It's £16 to rent (or £20 to buy) on Amazon Prime now, and I assume similar on Apple and other platforms.

I seem to recall a figure of $20m revenue being given for Wicked in its first streaming weekend (or possibly week), although I'm not sure if that was verified.

the studio will have got about $12.5m from a €25m theatrical taking. but Peacock will probably have paid more than that.

overall €125m (call it $150m considering the US) for a €50m romcom with an older audience (and VOD revenue still to come) is fantastic
