Yeah it’s crazy how well Torn has managed to stay relevant all these years. My daughter and her friends loved it as well. I wonder if Natalie makes good money from it or not since it’s a cover song.

I think we all expect Together Again to hold sway today because of how prominent and INESCAPABLE it was on the radio 30 years ago. But it's never kept pace with some of its contemporaries. I'm sure Heart FM still give it a whirl once in a whole, but that's surely it?

But by that token we should also be wondering why THE YOOF don't recognise Tin Tin Out feat. Shelley Nelson or the Lighthouse Family today.

Well, it matters not, now the kids know 'Someone to Call My Lover' :disco: (or whichever thirty seconds of it are being used in Tik Tok videos).
 
Be interesting to see if this charts in the UK today. Having spend over half the week in the actual Spotify chart should see it doing so if it has been reset (which it should have been) to SCR. Not sure if her label needs to apply for this or anything though, so if it is still on ACR that will stop it. Would totally be here for this I’m the actual chart in 2025.
 
This is really quite pleasing because I've always been of the view this is Janet's best song.

I definitely prefer FUN HAPPY Janet to MUMBLE Janet. "Runaway" revival next please!

I don’t think Love Profusion is a fair comparison because it was always a flop here. It would be like Don’t Tell Me taking off. Aged rather well and a hit at the time but a discovery to most.
 
It’s incredibly random either way, but I’m totally here for it. It’s always been a great little track, and it’s nice to see not one of the obvious ones - they do relatively fine on their own.
 
When does the newest trendy remix by a fairly/realtively unknown DJ make its way onto streaming? Nelly Furtado having one with Adana Twins (of all people they could get) blew my wig off. I hope WhoMadewho or Keinemusik for JANFT!
 
Didn’t rechart which is a shame. I would’ve thought it would if it had been reset, but perhaps it isn’t. It’s starting to stall the last couple of days so if that is the case it can hopefully get reset now.
 
I mean, Kylie only has four, and she’s maintained mainstream relevance far further into the streaming era than Janet did.
 
I'd still have thought Janet's 10 #1s in Spotify's biggest market and however many more top tens would have resulted in more traction as a heritage act though.

Also perhaps worth pointing out that Kylie has nearly 90% more total streams than Janet, and is out streaming her daily by over 80%.
 
Oh, and Kylie also has six, if you include Higher which I agree is a bit dodgy. But then let's face it, I imagine most of Scream's 125m streams aren't coming from Janet fans.
 
yeah I think that Kylie stat is misleading in many ways personally. Jan's streaming has been dogshit. five years ago Madonna's was too - but M/her team have put in the work in various ways. I think it's too late for Janft.

unless of course Moist or Bathroom Break interlude go viral on the toktok when Gen Z discovers sex.
 
Her streaming was always very weak for all of her success even as US centric as it was- you would think the more global hits would be on over 500m or something. Unlike Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, etc. though I don’t think she maintained much of a presence or legacy with millennials who stream the most behind Gen Z/alpha whatever.

I think Someone To Call My Lover was on only about 25m until it started going viral a couple years ago.
 
I'm belatedly coming to realise this is actually quite nice. The retro-futuro production is all shimmery pop vibes. Lyrically it's trite and the delivery was a little earnest for me at the time, but 2am on a Sunday it's suddenly sounding good.
 
Utterly fabulous track for me :disco: it’s settled in nicely around 100k a day as well which is a great result given it used to be around 10k two years ago.

But yeah, her overall streams aren’t great, but do seem to be getting a bit stronger so hopefully that continues. Not one over 200 million seems really rather crap for her.

Together Again is actually her highest streaming song combined and over 200m (212 million), but yeah you would think there would be more. So many #1s not even 30 million.
 
Is it to do with a lack of playlisting or did a mass extinction event simply wipe out all JJ fans and the memory of those who made her songs go to #1 in the States?
 
She had a lot of hits, but outside of the States I don’t feel she perhaps reached the same level of fandom as some of her peers?

It seems more likely to here a Madonna song on an 80s station, or a Britney song on a 90s playlist than a Janet one?

Still you would expect her streaming to be doing SOMETHING based on the USA alone.
 
Actually I suppose you could argue than in the absence of that one defining hit, her streaming IS on par with Kylie.
