VD stood for Venereal Disease when I was young, the generic name for anything passed by sexual contact. We used to call it cake, I sometimes still do but it's pronounced "caaaaake" (VD rhymes with Sara Lee which used to be a cake brand). It's a running joke between me, my brother and sister.
