Best songs from each decade

Okay I'll try (first ones that come to mind; the 80s slightly influenced from above)

70s - Zohra - Badala Zamana
80s - Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody
90s - Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh!
00s - Enya - Only Time
10s - Avicii - Wake Me Up

🤗🎶

70s: Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
80s: Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
90s: Wilson Phillips - Hold On
00s: Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
10s: Madonna - Beautiful Killer (I'm struggling to think...)

Don't worry I'm sure VoR will be here any second to swing his dick around.

OK. Twat.
?

are the @Moderator team absent lately or...

give it a rest. you sound like a bully.

I can’t speak for the whole mod team but I’ve made my feelings clear. This is beyond tedious now. We already pre-moderate Inner Smile’s posts. If this doesn’t stop, I’m in favour of starting to pre-moderate yours. Drop it and/or put him on ignore.

Congrats on some genuinely spot-on comic timing, but do you actually think you come off well in all this?
No probably not. But I doubt it's going to change minds. I said what I said. I'm not sure what else there is to add, aside from pointing out (again) about you sitting ready to pounce when I slip up. Kinda weird. I aggressively fed the troll on a hangover. I know no one enjoys it, but I don't enjoy the drivel we have to put up with every Sunday.

I seem to go quite easily without reading most of Inner Smile's posts. you're taking issue with everything he posts because you're spoiling for a fight. maybe look inward and figure out why that is instead of spreading nastiness on moopy. nobody's HERE FOR IT.

I know no-one cares for it. It's not performative. It's a genuine reaction. I know it's not nice or interesting, he just annoys me. It's not a quality of mine I love, and I've spent years working on myself. I had a shitty slip up this morning on a hangover. Can't change it, it happened. Please allow the mods to deal with it, rather than a pile on, because those of us who have experienced it know it's often more horrible than the initial crime.

Gosh, I never realised how much I stan male artists until coming on here. It makes me as sick as it does you, but hey-ho.

50s: 'Johnny B. Goode' -- Chuck Berry
60s: 'A Change Is Gonna Come' -- Sam Cooke
70s: 'Born to Run' -- Bruce Springsteen
80s: 'When Doves Cry' -- Prince
90s: 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space' -- Spiritualized
00s: 'B.O.B.' -- Outkast
10s: 'Runaway' -- Kanye West ft. Pusha T 'We Found Love' -- Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris? 'Dancing on My Own' -- Robyn? 'Runaway' is legit one of my fave songs ever, but I cannot anymore. :(
20s: Genuinely no idea. Nothing very obvious off the top of my head.

HMMM. I shall CONSULT my favourite songs playlist for this (and it'll still probably be WRONG)

50s: FATS DOMINO - Blueberry Hill
60s: OTIS REDDING - I've Been Loving You Too Long / THE BEATLES - Something (can't choose)
70s: JOAN ARMATRADING - Love And Affection
80s: SOUL II SOUL - Keep On Movin'
90s: ZOE - Sunshine On A Rainy Day
00s: NIKKA COSTA - Push & Pull
10s: PAPER KITES - Electric Indigo
20s: THE WAR ON DRUGS - I Don't Live Here Anymore

This story suggests I'm getting WHITER as I get OLDER and I'm QUITE HORRIFIED by this :wownic:

It might be the whitest of the white, but that War Of Drugs nomination is :disco:

Oh, great shout on that War on Drugs track! I was struggling with the 20s - thought of 'Will Anybody Ever Love Me' (which isn't even Sufjan's best) and 'The Narcissist' (even more pronounced for Blur), and 'Runner' by Alex G which I love but when you put it up against the choices from the prior decades... eh. 'I Don't Live Here Anymore' fits the bill much better, even if I maintain that there's a steep drop-off once we leave the 20thC.

And go with KING OTIS for the 60s plz. :disco:

Get back over to my 90s thread you…

But why talk about the 90s (third best decade imo) over there when we can talk about the 60s (my fave by a mile!) right here! :disco: I imagine a cultured savant such as yourself is already familiar with Mr. Redding's Monterey set? 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' is likely the highlight from it imo:

The man channelled soul way, way beyond his years. How tragic that we lost him so young (just like every member of the actual Vocal Holy Trinity whose names are SAM, MARVIN, and OTIS and don't y'all forget it). But how remarkable that he left us a catalogue which includes the above, 'Try a Little Tenderness', 'These Arms of Mine', and '(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay'; not to mention Otis Blue which is surely one of the greatest albums of all-time. :disco: 'The Dock of the Bay' - despite possible overplay and its deviation from his usual vocal stylings - is one of my favest songs ever, and I will always rue our being ROBBED of hearing how he'd continue to evolve. :(

Also, upon further reflection/today's mood, I might sub in 'Champagne Coast' for the cancelled 'Runaway' for my 10s choice, thus giving me an entirely male list. This is far more problematic than your increasing Whiteness as you age. (As the most glaring example of a COCONUT that exists in this world, I have always maintained that WHITE IS RIGHT for everything except my politics.) Talking of White, 'Something' is an interesting choice for the Beatles. Not one of theirs that I've ever connected with tbh, but my taste when it comes to those guys is a bit helter-skelter. What others are among your Fab Four faves plz?

you should start a general 60s music thread!

My top 5 Beatles songs:

1. Something
2. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
3. Here Comes The Sun
4. Don’t Let Me Down
5. A Day In The Life

Yes my 3 favourite Beatles songs are all by George Harrison! Strange that.

And yes I’m more of a Sgt Peppers-onwards kinda guy. My favourite pre-Pepper song is “We Can Work It Out”

Don’t get me started on Otis Redding. The greatest voice in the history of popular music and I won’t hear a word otherwise :disco:
