Chemical castration for sex offenders?

Emotionally highly charged issues like paedophilia / child sex abuse are and always have been an easy way to sell people government interventions we'd consider horrific under any other circumstances. And it's hard to argue because you just get "ahhh so you're a paedo apologist then?"

I struggle to have sympathy for someone who abuses children - naturally - but even if they're utter scum, we have to always acknlowledge, if we're not to lose ourselves, that they're still human. We've seen what dehumanising does to people before.

As something voluntary that non-offending paedophiles could opt in to for example, fine. Imagine being attracted to kids and not even wanting to be and not wanting to harm anyone, hard to understand but it must suck.

But as a mandatory thing? No that's a bad bad idea. Remember, LGBT are under attack in this country, and seeing as Starmer's Labour is way further to the right than even the Tories, it's not going to stop at T either. Sure they'll be ahead - "oh the trans people are groomers" as they like to say. "What do we do with groomers again?"
And then what about the gays?
Who's going to be the next Alan Turing?

I mean aside from anything else, sterilising trans women in the way chemical castration works would literally be a policy to give them one of the elements of fucking gender affirming treatment :D
 
(and yes, as reprehensibly crap as Starmer's Labour are on trans issues, you're absolutely on one if you think they're about to start going after LGBT people as a class over anything. There's being wary and expecting nothing so far as this government is concerned, and then there's being so paranoid you may as well expect the bush to attack you when you go outside.

There is always another government that follows. Would you be as trusting of reform with these powers?

Government - NO
Trans person - how about if I nonce this kid?
Government - Sure, come right in, we'll get the implant in you today!
 
These things are always, ALWAYS a slippery slope. Labour's lurch to the right has to be resisted in all its forms, including using extremes to justify generalities.

I can't imagine them ever considering letting the relevant prisoners out on early release to begin with, really.

(in any case, gendered sexual violence tends to be the blind spot of Reform. They'd probably not be too keen on it for rapists given half their supporters think basically everyone in front of a court for rape is the target of a witch hunt if they can do up a tie.)
 
I wouldn’t expect any conceivable British government to start forcibly chemically castrating LGBT people but then no one ever expects to find themselves living in a dystopia.
 
Anyway, as if Reform are gonna waste time on chemical castration when they'll clearly be beelining to BRING BACK HANGING (FOR ARE NHS)
 
But you don't give them the inroad. You don't give them anything they can extend a little, then a little more, then a little more, then oh shit, they're castrating the gays and jailing the trans and shooting the refugees. It's always by stealth, by increments.
 
If even Labour are normalising transphobia and state-enforced castration, how emboldened do you think the next Reform government will be to go even further?

Octophone is correct - this isn't just about the slippery slope whilst Labour are in office. This is also what happens after when Labour are booted out by the right for being SHIT and by the left for being ODIOUS.
