Taylor Swift - Reputation (Taylor's Version)

I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but based on WHAT?

I've come around to Reputation in the last few years, especially during lockdown between the releases of folklore and evermore because I never paid enough attention to it when released in 2017 due to several reasons, like the awful lead single, her off putting attitude during this period amongst other stuff; time has revealed it to be a pretty little album, I think expectations were riding very high after 1989 and some might have thought it was not a worthy follow up but it does contain some career highs as well as some absolute dreck (Gorgeous for example).

Reputation is obviously the ginger stepchild of the catalogue and, yes, it is largely because of Look What You Made Me Do pretty much throttling the album at birth. It'll be interesting to see what the Vault Tracks That Aren't Actually From Any Kind Of Vault At All have in store. I'm hoping for a decent serving in that regard although that could lead to another £20 double CD that I won't buy, like Speak Now.

apparently she recorded quite a few songs for Rep that were never used, including with Max, so I can imagine the vault tracks this time really will be.

I love this album so much. it's always in regular rotation chez jarkette. she better not ruin Getaway Car. full single and video treatment please!

incoming loon take:

all the TVs have generally been better than the OGs imo.

her vocals have matured and are much stronger, the productions and drums are richer, clearer, and are more lush. she makes up for the few botched tracks (Style, the Red singles and Girl At Home) with all-around better records. i can live without the original albums except for a handful of unmatched OG tracks like State of Grace and All Too Well.

i'll do say that on first listen the TVs usually sound a bit off, but they've all been incredible growers.

Given that she's going with a new album, I dare say we can expect this and TV debut during the next leg(s) of the tour.

it's coming!

Actually maybe coming now? Partially leaked version of Look What You Made Me Do which featured in the latest Handmaid's Tale, and possibly new cover artwork:

This is an unpopular opinion, but like most of the TS versions, this one sucks. She sounds half asleep, and she couldn't replicate the tension and anguish of the original recording. Keep it!

I’m not a fan of rerecordings at all. Same when JoJo released hers. I get the idea behind doing them but they are never as good

it's just a terrible song. and this one incarnation moreso because we pick up on the mild differences. vocally she has not nailed any of the Max "aggressive" pop tracks so far, except maybe Ready For It.

They're not there to be "good", lads. They're there to resell the albums because streaming killed the Greatest Hits and she found the loophole that matches to her and pretty much only to her because of the whole Scooter Braun scenario. Add a few "vault tracks" and ka-ching.

I do think that these last two won't be as successful, 1989 and Red were the peak. The lower sales will likely be used as evidence that she's "over", for which Donald Trump will take the credit.

I read somewhere that only a couple of the re-recordings matched or surpassed the originals by a bit in terms of sales and streams; I hope Scooter's Stolen Version of 1989 stays unbothered :disco:

The reputation re recordings seem pretty anticipated, and I’m sure there will be loads of variants to boot. The debut re recording I think will be a bit quiet.

Maybe, I dunno. I agree that the debut will be dampus squibius but she knows that. Which is why one of my theories was that the last two would come out simultaneously...a few extra "might as well, saves on the postage" orders for the debut, might even do a bundle deal on the pair (if you buy all 13 vinyl formats of each)

The irony of streaming killing the greatest hits album, yet the album chart being mostly full.of greatest hits 😂

Yup. Basically if you released your "This Is ...." playlist as an actual album before 2007 and before anyone knew what a "This Is...." playlist was going to be, you're quids in.

RE Greatest Hits: I thought they were still a "thing," especially since last Friday there was an Avicii one under my New Releases. It's practically "This is..." bar ONE new unreleased song. And we're talking about someone who died ages ago. How much more can they milk his stuff? I think newer GH will have to bet everything on physical formats and variants to make a dent, so Taylor's safe on this one. If she ever decides to release a GH, it'll probably be huge.

There's an element of milking the physical product where there is an audience. The Weeknd's GH is a playlist that has been released in various limited edition formats but hasn't had a full scale "release".

I think she's worked out that she has to take a decent chunk of time off after the overload and world domination of the past few years. Chucking these two out with minimal (for her) fanfare and then staying schtum for the rest of the year seems like a sensible option.

There's some legal/rights issue reason why one of these has to come out this year.
I saw something about this, a trademark that will expire if its not used by a certain date or something similar. But I've long regarded anything from the fandom as suspect.

That was it. You're right though, those loons are not to be trusted!

I imagine she's got an album ready to go already, so she needs to get these out of the way as soon as possible.

Well, you can't announce anything if you don't have an acceptance speech in which to do so! :D

Good grief, the fandom is going to be an absolute BINFIRE tonight.

Wait, the fandom is ALWAYS a fucking binfire.
