Just to give a bit of an update on this, in the past 24 hours, we've had over 23,000 server errors in the backend.
We used to go weeks without seeing even 1.
We have a couple of options, but I want to try and fix it without spending any money and without making the site harder to use, so my current thinking is this. There are four URLs you can use to access a page on moopy,
www .moopy .co.uk
moopy .co.uk
www .moopy .org.uk
moopy .org.uk
One of my theories is that bots are accessing each page at least twice every crawl they do, and possibly even four times. Therefore I am thinking it will be worth us canonising the site (

) so that we only have one.
Our official URL is moopy .co.uk, so this is what it would be cannonised to. Every other URL would redirect to that, and bots should hopefully stop spiking our server with as many requests. It will also make managing Cloudflare easier, because at the moment I have to have two different cloudflare accounts, one for .co.uk and one for .org.uk.
This should be a pretty painless experience for most people, you'll just need to log in again.
However, if you use a password manager, make sure you know what your password is, if it is saved against .org.uk
Indie, Kate, and I would also need to work out PotW going forward, as Indie only has excel on his work computer atm, which can't access the .co.uk site.
This isn't definitely going ahead yet, I am going to see if there is anything else I can tweak in Cloudflare etc to try and stop bots, but I just wanted to flag well in advance that this might happen. I just ask that everyone makes sure they know their password, or where they can find it.
