Has the theatre community considered TOUCHING GRASS?

Even I got bored after the first paragraph. Also, how is calling a woman a “bitch” a racialised microaggression? It’s an out and out aggression, and not racialised
 
Had a great hit rate with comedies this year. Absolutely LOVED Shucked! An absolute laugh a minute and entirely original. Everyone was incredible.

I wonder if they changed it a little from the US version with the storytellers - There’s a bit where they play what’s supposed to be “sophisticated British” characters, and end up sounding like Jack and Vera Duckworth out on the piss. It must have been a different nationality for the American.

Seriously recommend this for anyone if you can go before the short run closes.
 
Only a few things in Titanique that were different from the first time. Katy Perry joke still there as mentioned, and some new Patti LuPone ribbing. A minor quip about all the gays being absent because of Hoopla (but considering the lineup, it wasn’t accurate). And one bitchy remark about The Devil Wears Prada which wasn’t there before.

Still, 10/10 absolutely as hysterical a second time! :D

I found it a really fun afternoon, and Jane Krakowski gave an absolutely killer of a performance. I'd recommend anyone to go and see it.

Having said that, it's definitely not a great show though in any form though. The absurdist element is entirely not my thing anyway, and that second act was really very hard work.

Did you enjoy it?

The first act was very good indeed. The second act did not need to exist at all. I do understand that Sondheim DIED, but I didn’t realise before that he only wrote half of a show. It really would have been fine as just that one half.
 
I think the version at the National is the best you'll ever see it. The performances really carry it, and the staging is wonderful. I"m tempted to go back and see it before it ends this month.
 
Just out of Benjamin Button and can’t tell you how much I wanted those smug instrument-playing fuckers to stop talking at me by the end.

I enjoyed it for the first hour or so but ultimately far too much WHIMSY FOR MY LIKING.
 
I also struggled with Stereophonic the other night. Very good music but far too long for a play where that much happens (NOT A LOT).
 
I brought my 15yo nephew to The Book of Mormon last night having recently brought my other nephew to the tour in Dublin. Desperately trying to get them into musicals which I don’t think WORKED but they both enjoyed it. One of them did say it would be better without all the songs 🥴

West End version better than the tour overall, as the tour lead was barely singing, to protect his voice I assume but it was ludicrous. This one much better. Anyway I never need to see it ever again.

I have avoided booking due to the length. I don’t even think they do any matinees, do they? It sounds interesting, but would very much have to be a last minute decision on a deal if I am in the mood.
 
Got a TodayTix deal for £30 back of the stalls for Evita now. Might as well cross it off the list to see at least once.

Strangely after branding Titanique and Shucked in the Top 5 funniest things I’ve ever seen, The Book of Mormon is probably well out of the Top 10 now.

Seeing it in July for a third time as it’s the only show some of my friends will agree to see. Am trying to get them to see and appreciate at least one musical and realise it’s not all Les Mis and ALW. Still, it’s definitely not one for repeat trips.

I will have to ponder over my Top 10 funniest shows now.
 
Saw Stranger Things: First Shadow a few weeks ago - a great show that doesn’t need any context in order to enjoy. It was so good I did follow up, however, by watching the tv series from the beginning!

Ha, had you been waiting for it to become available on TodayTix as well (or just because the deal was good)? I had an alert set and had been holding off booking elsewhere, as I'm going for that gold tier this year (and that will satisfy me just fine, I'll leave seeing 120 shows a year to someone else :o )

Going during the final week, carefully avoiding the Mondays when Rachel is off for the night of course.

Seeing Clueless on Friday. Never seen the movie.

Oh fuck, I’ve booked a Monday. Oh WELL :D

No, it’s just a show I’ve never seen. The Gold Tier “deal” of knocking quite a few quid off of some of the back stalls/dress circle just popped up… and let’s face it, exiting the Palladium is an arsehole, so at least if you’re sat next to the doors that won’t be a problem :)

One of my friends saw it when it was at the Dominion a few years back when Marti Pellow was in it and said he was terrible :bad:

That’s been the rumour for months. I can’t believe the paying punters aren’t going to see the biggest song from the show being performed :D

This must be a promo surely.
 
I got such cheap seats that I'll probably get a better view with it being on a screen than I would squinting to see her on the stage. Cheapskates keep winning!
 
Just saw a concert version of a new musical, Bettie Page, Queen of Pin-Ups starring Shona McGarty.

She was rather good overall. Had an even better voice than what she’s showcased on TV before. The show needs work though as it’s a hybrid of new songs and classic 60s Pop/Rock. The new songs are never really going to compete with all times classics from the Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Jackie Wilson et al.
 
@Nancy What did you think of "The Importance of Being Earnest" when you went to see it? It's having a run at the Noel Coward at the end of the year, starring Olly Alexander. Might be tempted to go with my mum as she's a BIG fan of Olly and she's already going to be in London the first weekend that it's on as we're going to see McFly & Busted in Wembley.

It's only two Mondays in each of July and August that she's having off, so you might be lucky, but I made sure to check as she's pretty much my entire interest in seeing it.

Clueless was great, some brilliant dancing and decent songs, though annoyingly the one that got lodged in my head was possibly my least favourite of the lot, just because it sounded like they were singing about Baga Chipz.
 
I defied @Ellie and went to see Benjamin Button yesterday

Parts of it are annoying (the wider villagers; the sheep impression; the kids played by adults FFS) but overall I liked it and found it really quite moving. I really liked 3-4 of the songs. Four stars from me.

We had the understudy for Benjamin and he was good but lacked the gravitas I’d expect from a lead, especially from what I’ve seen of the regular guy.

Oh, it was brilliant. A really spectacular production. Definitely go see it!
