I think the biggest problem with this campaign is that she opened with a really lightweight track. I think it was meant be a teaser, but everyone treated it like a single, rejected it, and then when the pop songs came along the hype was gone. Just the whole ordering and timing of the song releases was completely off. It felt like she was trying to do something concept but the message didn’t land and it just came out like a regular album with little fanfare.
It doesn’t help that the album doesn’t have a Flowers-sized anthem, but that doesn’t mean the album isn’t loaded with good songs. Had she led with Easy Lover or Walk Of Fame, she might not have had a career peak but i think she’d have spent more than a fortnight in the 200.
