I think the word SEGUE is ridiculous. First of all why is it spelt like that, and secondly it does NOT look like 'segway' and I refuse to pronounce is thus.

Also tourniquet. Is it like Courtney Cox ArquETTE or like segue -- oh FFS.

I always fuck up DIVISIVE.

I make it sound like Division, rather than Divide. Apparently the only other person that does that is GEORGE W BUSH :ToneNervous:

I think you've fallen into that trap while I've been in your company and I took great joy in taking the piss out of it, so I'm astonished that you haven't learnt from the experience.

Anyway the answer is because it's an Italian word.

You were absolutely one of the people who laughed at me!

TWELFTH

I know how it should be pronounced, obviously. I just have trouble actually doing it.

I struggle with "segue" too. It's GOT TO BE "seeged" not "segwayed" as well. CUNTS.

The "f" and "th" in "twelfth" are utterly incompatible unless you're from, say, Essex, when it's just TWELFFFF either way

Ophthalmology.

Although remembering the spelling is more of a bastard

I daily hear my lift in work call it the SICKTH floor and I’m never sure if she’s right and I’m wrong

What! I’ve been saying ‘seeg’ all this time??

OMG at the SIXTH discussion

CLOSE THIS THREAD, IT'S MESSING WITH MY HEAD.

I learnt the hard way about hyperbole during an argument with my dad when I shouted: THAT’S HYPERBOWL AND YOU KNOW IT. It stopped the drama though because everybody laughed.

I can’t say iron/ironing and squirrel and have just accepted that I’ll never pronounce it correctly.

In Swedish, I can’t say the word for hair - hår -with the right inflection so it just comes out as whore, much to the delight of those who know.

I assumed that the lift lady would be in RP, but apparently not (according to my handy AI lookup)

It's pronounced like a french word because it's french. Some people pronounce the t but I think that's because they're American, or common :(
